Was sitting at a red light on my motorcycle last weekend when a young girl behind me decided to go right up my rear end.
Fortunately, someone was looking over me and I got off with a slight shoulder separation, a few cracked ribs and a lot of unnecessary pain.
What really bothers me is what I learned about our great law requiring insurance. I was totally unaware that all that is required is $10,000 in both liability and property damage. Gee, that really covers a lot of injury and damage!!
Bottom line is make sure you carry enough insurance to cover your car and increase your uninsured motorist coverage.
Why even require insurance if that's all the coverage required? That's our laws for us!!!!!!

Holy ****, I am glad you are OKAY (first and foremost)!!! I think you and I were talking about this last time I was at your house, the reason I sold my bike was because I used to have heartattacks at stop lights.

We have to have lower requirments otherwise half of the people in Florida wouldn't be allowed to drive and that would be discrimination!

Yes sir, welcome to FL home to the worst insurance requirements I have heard of. Pay out $10k for bodily injury and pennies towards fixing car and that is about it. That is exactly why I have upped my policy to 300,000/500,000 stacked, 100,000 property damages and UN protections. Granted I am only 24 and only assets to my name are 2 bikes and 2 cars so I am as protected as I can be I think. Only next step would be an umbrella policy.

Unfortunately I also learned the hard way, but mine was a lot worse. I was hit by a DUI driver, hit and run. Lost my spleen and my lungs clasped. I spent almost 3 months in ICU.

That is why I tell everyone to know their policy in and out and rethink what they can afford. Hopefully you never get in an accident, but I believe strongly that all it takes is one bad accident and all the insurance you have spent over the years will finally pay for itself.

Actually I'm amazed at the number of people that carry NO insurance here even though it's the law.

And where do you find the list of these people.... in the newspaper under "people who caused accidents and have no insurance" :(

then try to sue them because they have nothing...

Max out your uninsured motorist coverage. It's some of the best insurance $ you can spend.

10/20/10 is Fl's min. they even cap it at 20k per accident. Its really sad too, because lets be honest nowadays if you even have to take an ambulance and SIT in the hospital there goes about $6k ! which doesnt leave much more for actual assistance.

Be aware that uninsured motorist coverage on your car DOES NOT automatically cover your motorcycle.

You will need a separate uninsured motorist policy for the motorcycle.

    Cheers

Thanks Todd, Ryan and Alain for your well wishes and offer to help out. Fortunately I'm not too badly messed up. Was just my shoulder and ribs. Just a lot of pain and difficulty working.
I have uninsured motorist on the bike and am well covered on my cars. I was just amazed at the stupidity of our laws requiring one to only carry 10k in liability and 10k in property damage. Why even have to carry insurance if that's all that's required?
I was never aware of this prior to this accident. The law is a farce, like a lot of the useless laws on the books! Some idiots have nothing to do but sit around and make stupid laws. That's what we pay them to do. LOL.....
At least I can still drive my Ferrari and it sure could have been a lot worse. I've got a lot to be thanful for.
