Planning on purchasing a 308 GTS (78') of typical value...having trouble finding someone to FULLY insure it...everyone just wants to do Liability. (I live in North Carolina).
Any thoughts? Any idea what I can expect to pay per year? (I have a clean license)
I do plan on buying it outright...there will be no lien on it....just want to protect it!
    Thanks!
    Keith

Any agent will insure it. I have insured similar cars with American Family, State Farm, etc. 500$ a year full coverage as a 3rd or 4th car is about right. I can't imagine why you would have problems...

There are several companies that will provide collectors insurance. Haggerty, JC Taylor, and American Collectors to name a few. There are restictions on these policies. Limited use being one. The other is no coverage for any form of racing and timed events. This includes slaloms, rallies, actual racing and "driver schools". My latest renewal was very specific on this. If you are interested in track events, there are companies that cover just that. Be careful and make sure you know what you are getting and what is covered and what is not.

I had a HELL of a time finding reasonable insurance, or insurance at all. The specialty places (like Haggerty) required a second vehicle (I live in Manhattan, don't have or need a second car). Allstate also wanted a second car (AND would have charged over $3000), GEICO wouldn't touch it at all, Progressive wanted around $5000 (yes, five thousand), others had similar ridiculous demands. Note, by the way, I'm 29 with a clean record, not some teenager with a rap sheet! I almost didn't buy the car... Finally I called State Farm, expecting them to give me the same ****. They insured it immediatelly (and fully) for what is definitely a reasonable price in NY.

    So... Try State Farm...

    Haggerty - $691/year
Grundy (in FL, NJ) was about $617/year

I have had Grundy since 1999, but when I moved to SC in 2005, they said they didn't insure cars in SC under 25 years old, so I had to move to Grundy.

Both good companies in my experience.

I'm well under $500/6 months through Farmers. It's about the 4th-5th car I've got with them so that helps, but you shouldn't have too much trouble.

it's cheaper for me to insure 3 cars than 2. i almost dropped one due to it not being used and the increase was over 3k a yr. keep it insured and it was 4.5k less!!! so i saved 1500 yr by insuring 1 more car. the ferrari is thru hagerty but i'll be changing that due to its restrictions.

if anything the $800 fiat will keep the insurance cost down even if it rots in the driveway, go figure.

We found our best rate on the Ferrari to be from Progressive (Drive). We have NO restrictions of ANY kind on the car and carry full coverage with an agreed value. They also insure our other 5 vehicles.

    Good luck.

I had CHUBB collector car insurance, agreed value a low rate of around $460 a year and 0$ deductable on everything but too many restrictions. I'm now insured through Travelers with our 3 other cars, it costs a little more and I have a $500 ded. agreed value but no restrictions like can't drive to work in it. Probably won't cover track events I'm not sure, but I have no plans to track it.

My 308 QV is insured through State Farm for less than 2000 miles per year at a rate of around $185 every 6 months. I have a '64 corvette with similar coverage and that is only $90 every 6 months. My daily driver is a '93 Blazer and I pay $450 every 6 months for that. I have a clean record with no tickets or accidents.

Not only will insurance costs change state by state, with some states harder to insure in, but also by age and driving record. Comparing rates without taking this into account makes it somewhat difficult to make any direct comparisons.

47, spotless record, rural MN. Pay 365 for 6 months with AAA, full coverage and no restrictions, but was quoted 265 year through Grundy with stated value also with no restrictions.
