Intake "hissing" at specific RPM

    This may or may not be anything, but I notice that I get a hissing sound from the airbox intake when I am going through the gears accelerating. If I am maintaining a constant velocity, I notice it in a very narrow RPM range around 3K RPMS.

    I've looked for air leaks around the airbox and on and around the intake, but nothing. I've tried spraying silicone spray around the intake area ( to see if I get a change in RPM's from a "vacuum" being sealed momentarily, but again nothing).

    It's got a K&N airfilter in it, but it did it prior to the K&N as well.

    Anything I should be looking at?

    Also, I'll get the "SLOW DOWN" light, light up after "spirited" driving.. not sure if this hissing may be introducing extra air into the intake creating a lean burn and thus heating up the CAT.

    If you are not having any high idle issues or any other engine problems, I doubt it is a leak. However, using silicone spray to check will not yield any results since it isn't quite volitile enough to increase air/fuel mix. What you want to use is carb cleaner and listen for the engine to idle up.

    But, again, I don't think this is going to be an issue. Good Luck!!!

    This is a recent purchase for me. My '88 Mondial (Euro version) had perceivably more HP than this one does. Wondering if my perception of lack of HP may be related?

    I also get a hissing or whistling sound at part throttle through my intake on my 85 308 QV, but it only seems to have begun after I installed a K&N filter. So I have chalked it up to that. Otherwise it runs great. I agree try to spray the cab cleaner in there and see if idle changes. Good luck!
