This wasn’t my idea; I saw another Fchat thread on a guy doing this mod but with tape. I’m 3D printing patches to seal the holes without losing internal diameter. I’ll also report back on the sound. I’m using 3M body panel sealant (08115) to seal the patches.

i have AP headers, Too Speed sport cats, S-line exhaust, and mase tune so it already sounds wicked. Now without the EPA sound restrictions, it should sound even cooler.

There are 4 fish gill type pressure relief cuts in the tunnel too, which will remain open as intended.

The results should be a lot of “whooshing” air sound like a legit race car. Currently, my friend is 3D printing patches for me. I’ll report back once installed.

What filament are you printing the patches out of (curious re: heat exposure)? Would you be willing to post the .stl files here?

There was a year model that didn't have these I believe if you wanted a non-modified part. I think very early 2005 or something. Keep us updated though.

I looked but couldn’t find which didn’t have it. I looked at 430 scud and challenge too.

Did some searching. I was thinking of the older ones that had thicker walls but still had some resonators there, just different. Here's a thread outlining it: https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/sound-kit.676130/

I 3D scanned the holes so the patches won’t be universal. But I’ll see about uploading it anyways

Why would those holes be there in the first place??

Isn't there a performance aspect to these resonators...meaning smooth out airflow and increase (slightly ) performance?

They make a “sound kit” that extends the long tube more and has a trumpet like opening that’s covered with a plastic film to form a drum of sorts. This is supposed to create more noise than stock.

Here’s the thread I’m referencing. I repeated the same process. I believe a few others have as well.

Those 4 fish gill type holes are for allowing extra air to suck in when needed, or to allow excess pressure out - so I read… I will leave those open.

I’ve read both ways. Race cars don’t have them, piston airplanes don’t have them, so…. I’m leaning towards there not being a performance aspect and that it’s all EPA noise bullsh!t. If anyone concretely knows, or has an educated opinion either way, please share.

To play devils advocate to myself, maybe it’s due to race cars and piston planes being towards max power as much as they can. But to counter that, density altitude is every changing when flying and that’s a substantial air density/air flow/power change in itself, so if these actually helped, then it would be a cheap light modification to add power to piston engines across many altitudes/power settings/air density situations.

I’m still leaning towards no, they don’t aid in performance - that’s what I think the 4 fish gill type cuts are for.

I was under the impression those are for water drainage since the intake vents obviously can collect a good bit of water when raining. No need for "extra" air when the main opening is that large.
