Trust me, I've tried several different techniques to jump start AviatorChat.com, but it has been difficult.

Idea would be to add along with these forums...

    Architecture, Design and Visual Arts
    Drink & Smoke
    Fine Watches, Jewelry, & Clothes
    Technology Toys

At this point, I think that's the best thing.

I like this place, but it's dead. The only thing is I'm afraid of losing some of the really great posters by jamming them into the world of Fchat. It's a VERY different vibe there.

I agree and good AC is more personal, but a few posts a day doesn't cut it. heck, I think there are more aviation posts on FC daily than here. I also think a high %, at least active users are FC users.

Technically I'm not sure how yet to move the posts, might not be possible to match up usernames, basically all old AC posts would show your name, but as a guest and no linkable profile and nothing added to your post count. Although going forward everything would be associated to your FC id.

I've done all that I can do and I have come to the realization that I'm too old and not a part of the contemporary scene. I have made some great friends here and will keep trying to participate but my experiences are simply too ancient and my contributions are meaningless now.

I wouldn't mind if AC rolled over to Fchat. One stop for me and there are lots of aviation people over there. (Sparky for one).

I think the exposure would be good.

Just as an aside, I truly enjoy your posts. Thank you for taking the time.

Your contributions are far more meaningful than many of posts I've read here.

You also have the rare ability to present yourt houghts in a humerous and organized manner, something lacking in today's shorthand way of communication. Bravo!

You have a wealth of experience which most of us can only hope to duplicate in our lifetimes. I, too, have difficulty to relating to the "contemporary" scene, whatever that is. I guess it's the same difficulty I have relating to my teenage and young adolescent daughters. However, I refuse to simply "pack it in" and declare myself too old.

Try and not be down on yourself or to fade into the shadows because you "think" no one can relate. Rest assured that they do and this forum would be far less a better place without your contributions.

I have to agree with the above.

Although I don't know the full demographics of the forum constituancy, It appears to be a young(er) crowd whose interests are more diverse than simply aviation. A lot of fledglings asking similar questions (and in many cases quite broad and duplicative) does not make for an interesting and vibrant forum.

And that is not even including some of the, shall we say, "interesting" personalities which have graced the forum with their wisdom from time to time.

I don't know what the answer is. Perhaps it IS because this forum was spun off from your FerrariChat that it has not been quite successful. For most folks there is only a single "passion" at one time as there is not time for multiple passions. There IS time for multiple endeavors, but NOT passions. If the passion for a large percentage of the members is Ferrari's then it can NOT be for aviation. Or vice versa for that matter.

Speaking for myself, I am not an auto affectionado. Certainly not of the exotic roadster type. Much of my time is consumed by my 32 year long passion for flying, and to a lesser degree a secondary hobby of which I only spend a smaller percentage of my emotions on.

I will be sorry if you integrate this board back into the Ferrari group as that si not how I got here and is not where I would like to go.

I don't have a solution for you, though. I wil miss some of the folks here who are fundemental contributers, whose willingness to share their knowledge and experience trancends time, age, arrogance, and pomposity.

I hope you can find a way to keep this forum alive and a way to make it flourish.

I found a conversion tool that will easily move all the posts and pics from here over to FC. Don't think any way for your post count to convert, but maybe.

I'm not in any rush to do this except if spam gets out of control here, I banned one of the main IP's they were using, so should help a little.

yeah, that's not it, when our top 20 users don't even post but once a week or more then the community never has a chance, much less to get hundreds posting daily.

I have been slow to come around, but I suppose I am in the "roll it in" camp at this point.

    Good Luck in any case.

There is a middle place between AC and PPRuNe. Remember Gordon Baxter? There were times I think I subscribed to FLYING only to read that Texan on the last page. My thought would be a "fraternity" concept like TownHall with regular contributions from a select number of writers. That's an ambitious proposal. But PPRuNe took 13 years. If it's too late (and my intuition senses a terminal dissipation towards flat line) so be it. Pilot energy overlaps all ages and countries, a la Bach, ExUpery, Gann. With all due respect, an attitude that transmits "public forum" is doomed from the beginning. Whittle's "Dinner Party on Private Property" is a sound starting entropy. Tailwinds, Bill
