I have 2 people telling me the 1.73GHz is a better, faster processor then my 3.06 Pent 4. Is this true? I know it runs cooler, but my interests are more in speed.

In short, my work labtop's motherboard failed, and I need a new computer. I am looking at Tablets, in particular, a HP TC4200 Tablet PC. My home labtop is has the Pent 4, with 1 gig of RAM, and as you can imagine, I would like any new computer to have near if not more its speed.

Centrino architecture was designed primarily for the demands of notebooks. It manages battery life better than the P4. Raw processing power on the P4 will have the edge, but it's a power hungry processor.

Doesn't the M have more L2 cache, as well as faster FSB, than a P4?

You need to go to Intel's website and search for their specs, and/or you need to go to www.tomshardware.com and see the benchmarks they have for everything, I know they have a few CPU comparisons.
You will find pros and cons with both.

    YES. Clock speed means ****te.

I have a 1.6GHz Pentium M (my buddy has a 2GHz both on Dell i700m) and I have a 3.2E Prescott P4 and I can tell you Photoshop and Dreamweaver run just as smooth on all the systems.

THe Pentium M has a 2MB L2 Cache (Prescott P4 has only 1MB, Northwoods 512 and Celerons 256, i think) and the 1.6 is comparable to a 2.4 - 2.6 Northwood P4 (all other things equal) because of this.
