I began following this Giugiaro-designed coupe after it sold for over $4 million at some sale in England (Bonhams?) which was a surprise sale price for me, I didn't know an Aston without a racing background would ever go for that.
When I read up more on it I was surprised that it was Aston Martin CEO Victor Gauntlett himself who found and bought it in the US. I think he bought it after an engine fire. It had previously been in Beirut and survived that war zone only to get messed up in America. I was wondering if there were two of them made, (maybe I am getting confused between two earlier Bertone designed roadsters) and also is it known how Gauntlett came across it (I presume the car was brought to one of his dealers and he bought it after hearing about it) Was it ever published what he paid for it.

I know Aston was restoring it at the works but then midway through restoration it was bought and it was that private owner's estate that sold the completed car at auction. So because half of it the restoration was done it's difficult to estimate how much the restoration cost when the private owner came in.

Anyway interested in stories of its discovery, pre-restoration. PS for Ferraristis, I think it's about 80% as good looking as the Giugiaro designed swb250GT ex-Bill Karp car which if the Aston GIugiaro design went over over $4 million should be worth about $5 to $6 million if you judge on styling alone
