Beautiful shop and pics - 330 GTC still rocks my world after all these years & I expect one very special GTC will be more than just part of my permanent stable when the time comes...

Reason: Just as some became keenly aware of Ferrari through Magnum or Miami Vice - this very model was first F-car I saw in person - while vacationing in SF Bay area in early, early 70's. Therefore, it's my benchmark.
Napolis summed it up pretty nicely a few days ago when he stated something...

    Well... click on the link!

    I agree! Well said Napolis!

I grew up on Magnum PI but my love of F-cars has to include four seats and a drop top. I love sharing convertible rides with friends as well as those who have never ridden al fresco. I knew I was a convertible nut before I ever had my first ride in a convertible. Add the wonderful exhaust note of a Ferrari to the four seats and a drop top and I'm in 7th Heaven.

In the automotive desert of DC, there are a handful of enthusiast oases, a few first rate and interesting shops, dealers, and the like. FoW is one of those places, a lot of racers & enthusiasts out front and in back. My wife and I were on our way to purchase a Z8 when we first visited FoW; after a couple hours with Ralph, we left with a 360 and never looked back. I once complimented FoW's owner on assembling such a nice group of folks; he modestly attributed it to luck, but that can't be the whole explanation.

You all skipped over the rarest and most valuable car, the 512 S #23 (chassis 1006). Great unmolested car with a good race history, worth $1.6-2M. The BB/LM built is the last one; no race history other than historic racing. Asking price is/was something like $600K. The 333 SP is the ex-Moretti car which won Daytona and Sebring in the same year (chassis 019). It's worth $1M or so (highest price for a 333 SP). The owner also owns the Comp Daytona (#64), and has just acquired a 250 GTO.

There's actually only one 375 Plus "cabriolet", 0488, the King Leopold car by Pinin Farina. It's a very special car, one of the prettiest early Ferraris. (A friend of mine has owned it for years and years, along with the Ingrid Bergman 375 MM coupe.) All other 375 Plus' were race cars, with LeMans and the Carrera Panamericana wins to their credit.

Virtually all Ferraris prior to the 275s used Borrani wire wheels. Very early cars (to early 166 Inters) used Cabo steel wheels with hubcaps. The 275 GTB was the first which offered magnesium wheels (the "Sunburst" wheel) as well as Borranis. 275 GTB/4s, 330s, 365s could be fitted with either mags or wires. I'm certain that Ferrari never used wire wheels from any source but Borrani (althought it's very early heve, I haven't had my coffee, and my mind may not be working).

To me, having first ridden in a Ferrari in the early '50s, the early stuff, almost no two exactly alike, is the neat stuff. Had a life-long effect on me.

    Great info, Old Guy!!

Wow. I didn't realize what that was. And those jack stands look so small for such an expensive auto.

Interesting. I didn't know BB/LMs fetched that high of a high price. That car must be quite a performer in the HP/Torque dept.

Number 0488 --- that's the one! That's awesome!!! I LOVE that car!! I've found one model of it in 1:43 but I'd love to have a 1:18. Well, truth be told, I'd really like to have the 1:1 version.... :) It's very close in style to the 342 America cabrio but the subtleties are there. I love the lines in the chrome extending straight down the body lines. Also, I prefer the single hood intake vs. the two hood intakes on the 342. That is a gorgeous car.

I wasn't sure about that one. I'm into a lot of cabrios from various makes and models so I get my facts crossed sometimes.

That's what I'm finding myself as I learn more about the vintage models -- almost no two were alike. I think it's interesting.

Thank you very much Old Guy for sharing the info! You difinately know your vintage models.

BTW - Does you friend still have #0488 and the Bergman coupe? Those are beautiful cars.

    Mike

That 512 BB LM belonged to Lawrence Stroll. I know he had 2 ...so I guess he's selling one..
Just look at the stickers its written 10 (Tommy Hilfiger) and look at this pic I took this summer of the other 512 BB LM that Lawrence Stroll has...its written 72 (Tommy Hilfiger).

Neither the #10 nor the #72 BB/LMs belong to Lawrence Stroll, who owns chassis 31589 (raced as #47, its LeMans number). The "replica" (22255) was Stroll's, but has been sold.

#10, chassis 44023, belongs to the Liebhabers. #72, chassis 35527 (again wearing its LeMans number) belonged to Todd Morici. A couple of years ago Tommy Hilfiger sponsored the N.A. Ferrari Historic Challenge, and a lot of cars still have their number stickers from then.

The #10 car was one of the lightest built, even to the headlight stickers in place of lights. I think every other BB/LM has real lights -- after all, they were designed as endurance racers.

(P.S. The same person still owns both the King Leopold and Bergman 375s -- he also had an ex-Agnelli 375, but sold it a few years ago.)

I asked Tam if someone was available to show me the Daytona and if they would mind if I grabbed my camera out of the car. He said go for it and when I got back inside the dealership, Peter met me to escort me through the service bay. Pretty cool of them I thought.

    Thanks FoW!!!!

Every time I've gone to FoW, the garage area was a no-touching-allowed, self-guided tour. Allie Ashe himself once gave me a full shop tour when he was at the old location, showing me his 250 SWB SEFAC 'Hot Rod' when it was getting service, as well as his race-prep area for the Challenge cars - I got to watch one of the mechanics break down a 355 motor up close and personal. Customers could pretty much walk anywhere they wanted, so long as they didn't disturb the work going on or lay hands on someone else's car. Ferrari of Washington is HANDS DOWN the best Ferrari dealership I've ever been to. Period. And I've been to several on both coasts.

FYI, this is what's referred to as a "testing nose". The original nose and lights are with the car.

FoW is worth the visit when in DC. I was there a few weeks ago was treated very well. They had a black/black Scuderia on the showroom for sale, a 8C Alfa for sale. and a couple of 430 Challenge cars for sale. The salesman asked me if I wanted to see a brand new Challenge car fresh off the truck and took me back to the race shop. sitting there under a lift with its hood open was a 250 GTO. If I cna figure out how I'll post the pictures from my cell.

You meant to say, 250GTE converted into a 250GTO.

Nicely done, but let's not confuse folks.

I am guilty of confusing myself...

I was corrected. Not a GTE, but a PF.

    Nevertheless, not a GTO.
