What do you think is the best option?

  1. Gut Y pipe and install the quicksilver cat delete pipes

  2. Gut the Y pipe and leave the gutted cats

  3. Leave it as is with gutted cats and intact Y pipe ceramic

  4. Your silly and polluting the earth put catalytic converters back on that car

  5. Sell me the quicksilver cat delete pipes

I have been thinking about this and it's been buying me as to why a previous owner would do this or a previous shop.
    My car is a 95

My Y pipe has it's ceramic cat material intact but my catalytic converters are gutted.

I'm wondering whoever did this in the past, Why gut the main cats and not the y pipe as well?
Btw this car had the stock exhaust manifold delivered when I bought it.
It came from a smog state and I have paperwork stating the cats were replaced a few years ago but nothing about them being gutted.

I bought a set of quicksilver cat delete pipes with my capristo stage 3, now I'm thinking of leaving the cats as is and gutting the y pipe.

I live in a non smog state so I do not need to worry about it, but when I sell it the next owner will.

I made it a poll for fun.

Sometimes the primary cats gut themselves.

I would install the test pipes. My understanding is that gutted cats cause restriction because of there shape.

Possible flow restrictions aside, I've heard that gutted cats create a sort of "tiny" exhaust sound. My service guy tells me he can always tell when a car (he's most familiar with BMWs, not Ferraris) has gutted cats because of this sound. Obviously he doesn't like it. Any of you guys have experience with this?

I would have to record the noise but it does seam like it would cause a disturbance of the flow.

The delete pipes are a straight shot.

Disturbance to flow? Well...so does the stock cat for that matter. There are also some test pipes (see those on ebay) that have enlarged bodies similar to the OEM cats. I doubt the disturbances, although probably there, are that significant.

But remember this. Ferrari designed the exhaust with cats in place. They have an empty chamber at the front, another between the two catalyst matrixes and a third at the rear before entering the muffler which also has several more. Just how bad can this be?

I'm still curious about the sound issue though. Phrogs, does yours sound "tiny"? I know you don't have a way to make a before and after comparison but would you describe your sound as "tiny"?

im not sure how it sounds as its hard to tell a difference when I dont have another one next to it. Kinda like whats on you tube and stuff but Id have to put on the straight pipes and see for my self in person if its really that much different.
