Interesting hotels?

I'll be in Paris the 16th and 17th of December, leaving the 18th. Unusually, I am NOT on business and a very good friend is coming in to meet me. And so a very brief celebration!
On my last two visits I stayed at Relais Christine and L'Hotel. Both were fine places in their ways. I was hoping, however, to find something particularly interesting for this trip. Naturally, having said this, I'm trying to hold the numbers to 750E/1000US per night if possible. In my defense, I'll need most of my modest bankroll for two dinners that should be memorable.
So there we have it: another poor man wanting luxury!! Traditional Paris is good; contemporary/art/boutique is just as good.
If you've any thoughts along these lines, I would truly appreciate hearing them.

 

I've stayed at the Park Hyatt Place Vendome and it was beautiful. Could not ask for a better location and the rooms and grounds were beautiful.
