Some interesing info about the ultimate aero tt

This is truly a special 250 MPH Club update; Guinness World RecordsTM verified our speed record official! After 7 years of development I have finally achieved my goal of producing the ultimate drivers’ car and the official record is the cap to this achievement.

I learned something new this weekend...

The other night some of the SSC crew and I were reminiscing about what it took to achieve the title "World’s Fastest Production Car" and we started talking about the method we used (averaging the top speeds from 2 passes within 1 hour). Although we were required to use this method for "official" verification, once we thought about it, none of us recalled any manufacturer using this method in recent history (to our knowledge). I did some research over the weekend and I wasn’t able to find the last time a car manufacturer did this, not even Koenigsegg, McLaren, or Lamborghini! By going above and beyond what the automotive world considers "official" really made the record that much more special to us at SSC.

    What's new...

Considering the news from Guinness, this week has started out busier than ever. We’ll be sending out a press release early next morning and will start appearing in some main stream media, so keep an eye out. The guys in the shop are working hard on finishing several cars to be delivered this month including a special limited edition Ultimate Aero to commemorate the speed record, we’ll be making just 5, and it will debut at the Dubai International Motor Show this November. And for those of you who play XBOX 360 the Ultimate Aero is featured in the recently released Project Gotham Racing 4 video game. We’ve been working with guys over at XBOX and this Sunday, October 14th from 12pm-2pm PST, I will be signed onto XBOX Live for the PGR4 Live event. I hope to race some of you Aero to Aero!

    Some thoughts...

I know that supercars such as the Ultimate Aero may never be used to their potential but this is a great deal of what makes them so special. I wanted to address topic this because every now and then I notice people making comments which question the practicality of automobiles such as the Ultimate Aero. The Ultimate Aero represents innovation of automotive technology and gives insight to potential for all automobiles of the future. Throughout history supercars are indicative of what is to come and lead the way while trickling down their technology to mass produced cars. Whether it be Mercedes Benz producing a car capable of going 60 mph in 1903 or Ford’s 1967 GT40 (the last time America has held the title of "World’s Fastest Production Car") it is undeniable that the automotive industry learns from supercars.

And for the lucky owners and those who get a chance to drive supercars, automobiles like the Ultimate Aero are so performance savvy that they can be constantly pushed whether the objective of speed, acceleration, handling, or all of the above is the goal. The Ultimate Aero will always want more road, sharper corners, and a driver willing to push the throttle just a little bit quicker to achieve a new driving experience each time

Is this car street legal? I know that it set records for a production car but is it considered a true production car meaning airbag restraint etc etc. Is it certified?

There's alot of cars in america that shouldn't be street legal but for some reason they are.

How is this? I thought that I had heard that if you are a very low volume manufacturer you could get an exemption but later found out that it didn't matter if you sold 1 or 1000 per year...if it was made for public use it had to meet all standards and be certified. I have heard fastest productilon this and fastest production with regards to the SSC but nobody has ever answered the question about it being certified.

Yes, in other countries, such as the UK, there are low volume numbers. I've seen pictures of the Aero on the steets, so I'm assuming its legal.

Could be that, they are sold as component cars as a way to go around the certification rules. Meaning that, you technically sell the car as a body/chassis package, but do not sell it without putting the motor in. follow? I know that this is the way chip foose was able to avoid crash testing his coupe. Seems like a fairly clever way to avoid all of the testing.

That is how Noble sells its cars in the US. You buy the engine separately from the body/chassis.

To me, it seems irresponsible on the builder's part to a cut a corner that big. I couldn't imagine doing that and having a customer injured (or worse, killed) in a car that I designed/built.

It reminds me of Frank Williams' (Williams F1 team) interview about the death of Senna. He always said it was hard for him to deal with the fact Senna died in a Williams. I'm not saying his car didn't meet FIA standards (it did), but just showing how it can be tough on someone if a similar situation happened.

Have you seen all of the cad files on his car? I doubt he cut ANY corner's. Just because a car doesn't go through crash testing doesn't mean it isn't safe, and generally only enthustiasts are going to buy these types of cars. Also, like stated above 1G does this with the noble does that mean the noble is unsafe? Don't think so.

Porsche did all the crash testing with the Carrera GT, and people have died in it already.
