    Ronn Scorpion
It appears independent car makers are stepping up amid crazy gas prices to bring some stylish green into our lives. The just-announced Scorpion ($TBA) from Ronn Motor Company is a sexy speedster that will run on a 30-40 ratio blend of gas and hydrogen, promising around 40 mpg efficiency while still being able to hit 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. The fuel for the hydrogen-on-demand system is "derived from fracturing water molecules drawn from a small on board water tank, and will not require a high pressure, on board hydrogen storage tank or hydrogen fueling station," according to the company. The carbon fiber beauty is now in pre-production, with availability scheduled for this fall.

Got some nice lines but Im leery of companies that claim they will start delivering cars in 6 months when they are still just showing 3d models.

Its usually a bunch of (sometimes well meaning) guys that want the deposits in escrow so they can get loans off it to fund development.

    Incredibly risky.

Small onboard water tank? I don't believe it.

Heard about it on local news. Its built I think a little outside of Austin city limits. They said the price was around 150k. If this is the same thing.

When I can buy a finished one, I'll believe it. These things pop up all the time and usually never deliver.

What I don't believe is the on board Hydrogen generation. What power source will they use to make enough Hydrogen to be useful? Those Mason Jar contraptions that people are hawking online are pure snake oil.

They use the main motor to split the hydrogen, and when you need serious accleratoin, you use both power sources. In an endurance race, perfectly useless, but sprinting out of the occasional light lets you get some performance.

I'm skeptical. I do not believe that a car can generate enough electricity on board to make a useful amount of hydrogen. I'm not an engineer, though, so if anyone can correct me, please chime in.

Believe me, it can, there are roughly 740 watts to a HP. 50HP with 60% efficiency 22KW. Enough? I think so.... Course, what there system is, I haven't looked into.

Personally, I'd rather use hydraulic accumulators and hydraulic motors than this.
