i came across this old price sheet dated from oct of 73. i know the quality isn't the greatest, but is nice to have as a reference from the time when the cars were new.

especially the "seat panels" option for the dino - stupid beach covers.

Do you think by seat panels they mean the beach covers?

    hell, i don't know.

everyone has told me that the covers i'm speaking of are aftermarket and not real.

i was told the same thing about the emergency soft top/sebring top. now that i have one, it is suddenly "factory"

no doubt that these "owners items" are factory,

my question is who has the AND will selll them?

So do you suppose that these cloth panels could simply be an insert/replcement for the seat's center section? I've seen it on older Dinos, I suppose they could have offered it as an option particularly for hotter climates. I also suspect that almost no-one would order it that way.

I also wonder how many Dino's were factory ordered vs. shipped to the dealer as a stock item and sold off the floor. I don't think we've ever touched on that subject. It would help to explain why we don't see these seat inserts. Who'd want a Ferrari with cloth seats anyway.

About the beach covers. Never seen one in a book, magazine or catalog for Ferrari Dino stuff. Could they just be the Sasquatch of Dino options?

    dave,

thanks for making the list more legible, i am not that handy.

as for the "ordering", i agree with you, we haven't talked about it. most owners that i have talked to that are original owners simply bought the car off the floor. i have yet to talk with someone who said they "ordered it new". i know that gregg's 206 was picked up at the factory by the first owner, so maybe he can shed some light on it.

as for the beach covers, i thought they were most likely not factory. what convinced me is once you see how the emrgency/soft top works, you'll understand. the soft toip IS factory. the beach covers are made exactly the same way. since most peopel haven't looked that closely at the soft top, i understand there skepticism. but when i saw the photos of the beach cover, there was no doubt in my mind.

I don't think "seat panels-cloth" would be beach covers. It says panels, not covers. These would be cloth seating surfaces instead of vinyl, which was standard.

And, yes, cloth is WAY more comfortable than vinyl in either hot or cold weather, so I could see how someone would want it.

How about those "wide wheel wells" for $500?. Pretty good money for putting a piece of sheet metal around each fender lip. You could buy your kid a new entry-level sportscar for $2K back then.

I don't want to nit-pick, but it was $675 retail (later $775, I think), and while not perfect the flares were somewhat more artful than that! Besides, that inclded the wide Campy wheels. As for a new entry-level sportscar, my new '69 Spitfire (bought in late '68- thanks, Mom & Dad) was $2,600 with wire wheels and AM radio, so by late '73 when this list was current . . .

Bought a low mileage '71 MGB in '73 for $1900.00 so I guess that's pretty comparable.

That freakin' MG cost as much to keep on the road as a Dino anyway. :D At least it sure seemed like it to an 18 year old kid. (me)

Yeah, but in '68 my $3/week gas budget allowed me to drive every waking minute when I wasn't in school, so I'm guessing that a few years later those MGB repair bills did seem huge to a kid!

Yup. I remember gas was about 39.9 a gallon. I'd buy ten gallons for $4.00.

I don't recall how far that got me.

I do remember pulling the smog pump off to try and improve mileage a bit.
