The attitude that "only 500 F-cars are running without test pipes, so it's OK" is an excuse children use to justify their wrong actions.

Remember the moral imperative: While one person doing something bad may not effect a whole lot, what would happen is everyone did that bad thing? If the result is negative, then what you've done is immoral.

Now, does that mean you should stop? I won't answer that -- it's for you to decide. But man up and accept the fact that what you've done is immoral, and stop making excuses for youself. Just because "only 500" people are doing it does not make it right or amoral.

As was mentioned, cars these days are engineered with cats in mind. The whole package is meant to work together. Assuming you gain 2-5hp, which you can't feel by the way, is it worth being immoral? There are legal and amoral ways to gain 2-5hp.

The cats are there for a reason. Take a look at a picture of Sunny Southern California from 20 years ago. Brown skies. Granted, it's not pretty today, but it's a hell of a lot better than it used to be.

Again, I'm not telling you to put them back on. Lord knows I've broken a number of laws. But at least be real about it...you are commiting a crime, you are damaging the enviroment (albeit in a very small way), and your actions are not justified because only a small number of people do it. A very small number of people rob banks - are their actions justified?

Published reports by several sources would indicate the gain is a hell of lot more than 2~5hp on most Ferraris.
Also, most Ferraris are very well tuned by their owners and will pass emissions testing without cats.
But, the law is the law!

I always amuse myself in these discussions because it makes me look like some sort of a green weenie. I'm not; far from it.
I just get bugged when people get the facts wrong about a law that they're advocating (and usually admitting) breaking. The fact of the matter is, if your car came with cats, you can't disable them. Regardless of how old your car is or how prone a Ferrari is to bursting into flames because one ignition system failed and you didn't heed the warning of the SLOW DOWN light, it's still illegal. That's what the EPA says. If you don't like that, justifying your actions on FerrariChat by claiming you deserve an extra 10 horsepower or are afraid your Ferrari is going to catch fire or it's just going to wear out your engine compartment materials sooner isn't going to change the EPAs opinion. That's what political action is all about. Mount a campaign. Organize. Hell, enter a campaign! Does the EPA answer to the President or Congress? Run for one of those positions. But all the whining on Fchat in the world ain't gonna make it right, and there are some of us on here that are just anal enough to keep pointing out the facts every time someone else decides to set forth erroneous information.
    Seacrest OUT! LOL

Aaaarrrrrggghhhh!!!!! LMAO at that one. :)

I agree with you. My post may have seemed like I'm a green-weenie, but I'm not as well. And honestly, I don't care if someone removes their cats. But, like you've mentioned, it is against the law, the law exists for a reason, and they only way to truly justify removing them is by making removing them legal.

Can't say I care about #8 or #9 since I don't have kids. Not to mention when I see trucks going down the road EVERY DAY dumping loads of black crud into the sky, it makes me feel a little better about my little 328 which passed California's emissions only a few weeks ago. If the state wants to work on the environment, they can use the taxes I paid when I registered the thing. Or they can use our "highest in the nation per capita property taxes I paid that SAME day".

Who ARE you Frank Parker?? I was warned about you...

So you guys don't have to lose sleep thinking I might be out there breaking the law.

    Actually, in VA there is.

But then, from seeing DC area traffic, I'm guessing that there's a law against looking where you're going too.

And none of the agencies will take responsibility for any of the intersections.

Be sure not to get all ADD and only read the first sentence. Some of these things take 2 sentences or even 2 big print pages to get all the relevant facts to you. These two EPA publications should become the autoreply the Ferrarichat automatically adds as the 2nd post in any thread started with 2 of the 3 keywords "remove" "cat" "bypass".

Just took my Mondial 3.2 to the emissions testing center today and she passed with flying colors without the cat. The actual readings were both less than half the allowed limits. There is not a visual inspection in WA state. I'd suggest that keeping one's car tuned up and running properly on a regular basis will, in the end, have the greatest positive impact on the environment...

A lawyer who isn't about to risk his license to practice by committing a felony for a few extra HP. And, even if I were willing to take such a risk I wouldn't be foolish enough to broadcast it on an internet chat room for all to see.

Sorry, it was dark in the garage. I pointed it out so you could see it.

You know, after thoroughly reading those letters (good stuff by the way), it CLEARLY states that adding a Turbocharger to your car is considered tampering and is JUST as illegal as adding test pipes. There are a LOT of people on this board that might have some explaining to to to the authorities!!

Man, at those ricer shows, those EPA guys are probably sitting and waiting to hear those turbos let loose. Wow!!

Thanks!! I am hoping Frank will find it as humorous as you (and I) do. I was only doing it as a joke. No offense Frank, if you read this. I understand where you are coming from and thought I would add a little humor to a post that is going back and forth with no end in sight!! :)

From such an articulate mature person as established by your hand gesture, I would have expected your fingernails to be as filthy as your car's undercarriage...I am surprised!

Sadly, I am more upset about you calling my undercarriage dirty than if you would have insulted me!! :) I am truly a Ferrari owner!!

Yeah, it is NOT clean right now. Although I have put on a good 600+ miles on the car since I got it a week or so ago.

I have plans to clean it soon, FYI. And it REALLY does not look as bad as it does in those pics. I noticed the pics made it look filthy and almost went out to retake them but I was meeting the boss for meetings all day and would have been late.

I really didn't mean anything by the finger. Just horsing around and was trying to add a little humor to it all.
