LOL, "References available from family, friends, U.S. District Attorney, etc."

It sucks that the dude is even having to put an ad in the paper to look for a job...

Certainly one for the "WOW" category. Gotta love his honesty. Almost endearing isn't it? Whoever hires him (assuming he truly is on the straight and narrow) will get a highly talented employee.

So you are saying that he should not be discriminated against at all when he checks the "yes, I'm a felon" box, and explains that he served 10 years in prison as a drug smuggler?

Any company that hires him would be in considerable peril of lawsuit brought against it by shareholders if he were caught in a dishonest act. This is why background checks are required.

That being said, I think this article would help to assuage my fears, but would not completely eliminate them.

i understand people will discriminate against him, but he's put it all out there in the open and gotten it out of the way... Honesty says a lot... i know that won't stop people from holding reservations and rightfully so... i don't think choosing not to hire someone because of a criminal background is discrimination, i think it's playing it safe... i just think it's refreshing that he's been so honest about it and he's obviously a very successful person - someone might benefit from giving this guy a chance...

Of course, there's always the alternative... Just think of it like this: if you were a drug smuggler, using your legit business as a front and needed help - how elated would you be if you came across this ad...? :)

Ok I have met this guy (the post had me do the photography for an article on him)

    Really fascinating stuff...

The "Fishing" and Trucking business was 80% legit but the profits came very heavily from the 20 % shady

He was rolled on by one of his business associates and just as he said "took responsibility for his actions" did not rat anyone else out although he could have (big time)

Most of his "business" associates are now former (dead)

I agree with you, but only because of the guy's forthrightness in this ad. Otherwise, I was run fast and far away from this guy.
