http://formula-one.speedtv.com/article/f1-sir-jackie-stewart-takes-aim-at-hermann-tilke-track-designs/ Seems that the wee scot thinks things are a bit too safe. I know others here have similar feelings about the Tilkedromes.
whole heartedly agree... Tilke / Ecclestone could care less about in person attendance... gone are the days when you could stand at a corner with in spitting distance and see drivers really trying... now you are in a grand stand far away from the action. LMS / ALMS is the only series that has the right balance of old & new. This is what F-1 should be doing. 1. Mandatory full team presentaiton every day after practice in the Paddock... with access to all fans who buy the paddock pass - no more than $100 for the pass 2. Full Media access to drivers - not just F1 TV. thru all weekend. 3. Alow more standing room at key corners for fans who want to wander around the track. 4. In the USA - F-1 has to get on the advertizement band wagon in conjunction with its brands - Mercedes, Ferrari, Renault / Nissan etc... it has to be promoted all year long. 5. USA should have one street race & one circuit race - east & west.
Why? F1 has a tiny following in the USA. The TV viewer-ship is less then Finland, a country of only 5 million people. So why should the USA have two races, but other countries with very high viewing ratings not have a race at all? The only reason the FOM and the Teams wants to go back to the USA for a round of the championship is due to the advertising and corporate benefits. Schumacher said it himself when he was at the peak of his world wide popularity, he commented in an interview that he loved to holiday in the USA cause it was the only place in the modern world where he could go and never be recognised.
