Actually, Beem-/Bim- depends on where you're from.
Not if you live in the United States, according to the BMW Car Club of America (BMW CCA). They have fought this battle (tongue sort of in cheek) for a long time now. Here's but one example: http://www.boston-bmwcca.org/reference/Bimmer-Beemer.aspx
How so? I thought this was pretty universal. BMW bikes have always been known as Beemers and the cars as Bimmers, at least here in 'Merca.
LOL. From the referenced link: Then all you gotta do is think to yourself: how many wheels does my BMW have? Four wheels? Yep! Bimmer. Unfortunately, there is at least one BMW CCA Chapter with the word Beamer in the title of their Chapter Newsletter. How this came to pass and why it hasn't been corrected is a mystery. All we know is that the chapter is located in California, which may be explanation enough.
Always? Maybe the last 20 years....I see it as an inner circle thing. When I was in High School (70s) the guys with 2002s and R90s were the Beemer Boys... they even had shirts extolling that issue. There was no mention of Bimmer at that time. Whether bike or car, a Honda is a Honda... we don't have Hondaaas and Hondeees. What if the 12cyl guys decided they were the only Ferraris... we were Ferraruhs... silly. It's these "clique" separations that polarize us. End the end, they are ALL MADE BY BMW. No disrespect or malice towards Eric (I just used his quote as a reference point), BMW fans or BMWs - when folks get caught up on words or pronunciation its just silly. Like the guy with the Vette club who was taking people to court for using the word "survivor" on anything but a Vette... WAIT, should that be vEEte or viite? Trekies or Trekers?? inner circle distinctions - Silly. Remember - offense can only be TAKEN. You have to choose to be offended. Hopefully the B?mmer guys won't be. Rick - loved my beemers, sold them both long ago, all 6 wheels worth - now, Ferrari and Aprilia PS - what you guys did in support of our Fchatter on the BMW forum was Great!!!
Indeed. No more, no less. But isn't "are you in the circle or out of the circle?" the eternal question when it comes to such important matters as this?
Back to the original topic: I checked out CLASSactBMW's other posts; he just bought an old BMW 733, a real one owner survivor. Now he is going to start modifying it - as his name implies Class Act... Its a shame to see another elegant old car about to be ripped apart by a kid - I hope he proves me wrong but I doubt it. Regards, Art S.
A "class act" is a title best given by others, it's usually not appropriate when taken on themselves.
I just noticed he had been registered for one month before he appointed himself moderator and tore into Matt about his Ferrari.
There are a ton of 16 year old wankers over at bimmerforums (especially the E30 forum). I've noticed that as the price of the car increases, the maturity of the forum users also increases...I've had nothing but good experiences on dmctalk.com (DeLorean forums) and here on Fchat....the BMW forums however are a totally different story....
