Hi All, Pretty soon I'll be starting the replacement of the interior of my 77 GTB that is currently covered in gray wool. I'll be sharing the process as I do this (and seeking help from the great folks here!) It seems the original black interior is still underneath. I will either try to resurrect it, or use it as a template for new vinyl and leather where appropriate. So... First question: Anyone know how to remove this piece? It's the RH piece and I believe this is p/n: 60289808 Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks. I’m guessing this was removed at one point to cover in the grey wool so maybe they drilled the rivets out. Either that or they just flexed it out. It was never captured inside the gasket. It’s been as the photo shows. I just pulled the wool away. But it does seem like it’s captured somewhere along the center. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Found the three rivets. Looks like I'll need to drill them out and pop new ones in after I re-cover that piece. I'm officially past The Point of Know Return. Yeah, that was intentional. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I peeled the grey felt off the arm rest. It could be salvaged, but whoever put the grey felt on cut a lot of the vinyl away, so they will need to be re-covered. Did the same on the leather door skins. I tried some Goof Off and it removes the adhesive really well. But also the dye. Or the panels were redyed at some point. Because the black just bled off onto my rag. God news is that after removing it, the leather felt fairly nice and smooth. Probably redye and leather treatment could salvage them, but again, I think they cut extra large holes and made some slices in it. So that sucks. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I recovered mine instead of trying to salvage the existing. The arm rest and door pocket are vinyl, but I had them done in leather. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Did you order the hide and cut to shape or did you find someone who was making them? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I have an extended family member who is an upholster. He specializes in redoing Dassault Falcon and Gulfstream Interiors. I just got him the leather and had him do them. I'm pretty handy, but giving them to him was a no brainer!

No problem! If you have any other questions, let me know. 2 years ago I completely removed all the glass, headliner, and interior (except dash) in my '77 GTB to do a restoration.
I called them and asked about what was included in the door panel kits and they didn’t know. [emoji23] Can you tell me what they included? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Almost everything is out of mine while the car is being painted, but I need to eventually get that dash out (my kidney-bean shaped vents are warped & need replaced). While it's out, I'll just have it & the pod recovered What's the general preference: replace vinyl pieces with vinyl, or recover in leather? @Dockboy , I do like the looks of that armrest & pocket in leather. Did you also do the dash? I'm wondering how that would look & hold up compared to vinyl. A few years ago, I had the interior of a Porsche completely redone, and went with the original vinyl side pieces & backs for the seats, and I kinda wish now that I had just gone with leather.
Mark/Ben - earlier this year I was changing the window felts and fuzzies in 76 308 GTB so took the opportunity to recover the door cards and arm rests with leather. Time consuming and patience required but doable (and $ saving): Image Unavailable, Please Login
Very nice job! I did the door cards on my 911S a couple years ago. Luckily was able to reuse the vinyl but made new door cards and used new foams. Turned out nice. Time consuming for sure, but I'm glad I did it. I think the 308 will be easier because the door cards are fiberglass and are n good shape. And the surfaces are just flat (not patterned, like the 911). I may or may not redo the door pockets. I have a pair of NOS ones that are vinyl and a pair coming from Newman. But if the 'kits' from this place have leather pieces for the pockets, I might just do that. Or buy a full hide and redo everything. Not sure if I will do the dash in leather or vinyl yet. Leaning towards leather, but that will be done by a pro either way. The car is always garaged with California weather so I'm not too worried about leather shrinkage so long as it's treated regularly. If I do leather, I might do some yellow stitching on it for fun.
OK, so I have a problem... I just received the hole plug from Newman and it falls through the hole in my door panel. The panel hole looks like it was opened up with a hole saw. Any suggestions? I'm not a fiberglass guy. Never worked with it. I cold maybe epoxy some sheet metal inside with a proper size hole for the hole-plug to snap into. Or a piece of wood epoxied in with a step machined in it (like a shoulder-washer)? Image Unavailable, Please Login
@Dockboy, Did you drill out the rivets and later re rivet that little side panel mentioned above? Just curious before I go neanderthal on this.
Ben, I did not do anything with the dash. I bet the "purists" don't like the leather but I do. I even recovered the headliner in leather! I looked high and low for the right vinyl for it, but couldn't find it. Could find the color, but not the thickness. The headliner uses a very thick mil vinyl. My upholsterer buddy had some leather skin that was the perfect color. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Mark, You are right, there should be a metal ring around the hole for the window crank. I like your idea of epoxying a piece of sheet metal, but I would do it on the outside underneath the padding. Doing it on the inside would pull the plug to far in.
