    Hello,

After a beautiful friday ride with my 2011 458 italia I own since last september, My reverse gear decided to die.

while leaving a parking spot at a shop, I had an "Engine control system failure" message, while engaging R gear, car won’t go in reverse and switching to N neutral . I have been stuck at my parking lot until I decided to drive in1st at the edge of the ditch...and leave.

I drove 20 mins back home without any issue care behaved normally without any error messages...
and guess what Reverse gear will work again after a few minutes stop…
Will take the car to the dealer for better investigation.

My diagnosis is full of errors but I doubt all are true since I have no lights on my dash anymore Image Unavailable, Please Login Battery problem ? DCT was replaced in 2022 from services records...

    Anyone experienced this?

I too experienced intermitten loss of reverse gear. Initially I was super scared the transmission was in need of a rebuild but when I took it to my independent it turned out that it was only the reverse button itself that was giving out.

If you're having issues with your even gears then you might have a rebuild around the corner. Luckily for me that wasn't the case and a button switch resolved my issue entirely.

Based on the report the P1906 is the pressure sensor for even gears - "812"
I would start with basics - check levels of fluid in DCT , Battery etc
I would also wipe out the codes since you already have a copy of them to show dealer etc and see what returns

The car had a DCT replaced in 2022 so I doubt this is the Trans...
probably more electric, but will definitely check this R button who might be the culprit.
the car is still under CPO so I will take it to the dealer and they will investigate...

Car just had annual service with Fluids, this would be really annoying if this is the culprit.

Do you have documentation of the 2022 job ?

That sensor going out is the cause for losing an entire bank of gears, not something to be taken lightly.

I see this is actually a 2023 job... Gearbox fully replaced 30k Cad job...
Car still under Extended CPO, I will check with the dealer what can happen.

Since they did recently fluids service I hope it’s not an issue with purge or faulty sensor :(

do this asap, and keep all the receipts and conversations, get everything in writing

look into whether recording of conversations are one party or two party in your jurisdiction .... this may be a bit paranoid but it costs nothing and may save your ass
