Sometimes I have no ignition, the engine cranks fine but will not fire due to no ignition, sometimes no light or it dies as I am cranking. Takes a few goes but generally it starts and I’m off. I have a had a few instances where the ignition has died while driving, but managed to start it back up on the move.
    1. Which white connector on the fuse board powers the ignition, with which wire?
    2. Is there a main earth/ground for the ignition (starter motor engages and turns fine)

    Thanks
    Anthony

But surely the fact I have no ignition light on dash would mean main feed.

    AB,

I had a series of hot start issues, solved with rebuilt alt, starter and fitted a gizmo not dissimilar to how you sort the windows!!

I then ran ok until I suddenly had a couple of all power gone moments - blips really. With no common theme - weather, temp, speed, duration....

I restored main grounds and reconditioned the engine wiring /chassis harness plug. The latter was pretty poor and loose (plug and chassis fixing)

I also restored the battery cut off. I had a direct ignition feed to the starter from a starting button as a temporary fix to hot starting. I ended up keeping that anyway as I liked firing up off a button - I see the factory copied that from me for later models ;-)

Ran a lot better and no more cut outs.

Not following you here (by "light" I thought you meant "light off"). Are you saying that you sometimes turn the ignition key to Pos II (run) and the alternator warning light does not come "on"?

Sorry, yes exactly that, no alternator warning light. Over here we also refer to it as an ignition light.

Measuring the voltage on one of the two red wires in the single vertical w white connector (relative to ground) with the key "on" when the alternator warning light stays "off" will tell you if it's probably an ignition switch problem (red wire measures +12V) or probably an upstream main +12V problem (red wire measures 0V). See this thread for the same problem on another Mondial QV (here the trouble was an upstream main +12V problem):
