Was wondering if anyone can offer advice on a remote that started acting as if the battery was wearing out. I had to push the button four or five times to get the car to unlock this past weekend. Prior to that, it seemed to work just fine. I opened the remote and checked the battery - according to my volt meter, it's putting out a bit more than 18V. Is there a corresponding receiver in the car that also powers off a battery (other than the main car battery)?

    Appreciate any thoughts/advice. Thank you!

First, check your battery again - the A23 batteries in the fobs are only rated 12v. Perhaps your meter is reading wrong, or "possibly" another battery has been inserted that is putting out a much higher voltage (although I don't know of another battery with the same form factor as the A23 but a different voltage.)

If you haven't used that particular remote in some time, it's pretty customary to have to push it a couple of times to get it "synced" with the receiver in the car. That behavior just comes with the territory with these rolling code security systems.

Generally, if you push the button on the fob, and the LED lights up, you can be pretty confident you have a good battery and a working fob.

Try rubbing the battery terminals of the remote with emery paper. This will improve the connection.

    + to the above.

I found the correct battery (finally),
and now keep a NEW spare battery in
the car - with the correct screwdriver.

    Hi,
had exactly the same problem a couple of years ago with my remote. Despite a new battery was pressing 4 to 5 times needed before the alarm cq unlock was triggered. Eventually found the root cause being the connector plates to the battery. Not particular corroded but they obviously deform slightly pending on the temperature. When I used the remote control for the first time in the morning after having it in house was there no problem. But over the day and particular when warm outside or when wearing the remote in your pocket the problems occur. I adjusted the connector plates and probklem solved.

    regards, Jan

I used an old trick on my remote as I do on my flashlights. Battery terminals develop minor corrosion almost undetectable. I keep a large pencil eraser in my desk and in the car. Simply remove the battery and rub the terminals with the eraser and wipe with a cloth or tissue. Good for the TV remote and those outdoor solar lamp batteries.
