When I first bought my 355 the wipers started operating on intermittent mode pretty much all the way from Florida to Pennsylvania. Some other electrical issues surfaced during that drive, such as gauges acting erratically, etc. A short was found behind the dash I was told by the shop where I had taken it. Today, the wipers started doing it again, but no other electrical goblins so far. Is this a known problem on 355s? Any suggestions? Thanks!

Not a know problem. You have a short or a ground problem somewhere under the dash or the steering column.

Not a 355 owner, but if my 348 did this I'd turn the key on and start wiggling wires under the dash to see if I could find something to cause the issue. Then try the switch wiggle. Easy approach first.

Failing that, I'd look at the fuse box. There is likely a relay that controls the wiper motor. Do the same wiggle test there to see if anything happens.

From there, you need to trace the circuit and see where it is engaging. The switch likely energizes the relay coil, so you can test continuity from the switch to the relay (or whatever it uses to actuate the wiper motor). See if it is closed or flaky. It that looks good, repeat the test on the other side of each component until you get to the motor itself. Somewhere along the line you'll find a switch that is engaging due to heat or vibration.
