Internal timing chain - peen the pins?

Image Unavailable, Please Login Okay, so I’ve never had to assemble a timing chain before, and any chains I’ve had to install in industrial applications typically employ a master link. They mostly have a snap link that locks into grooves at the ends of the pins.

So I bought a new chain for my Mondial T and out of the bag, it was not joined. It came with the master link but it’s just a press-fit. In any case, I carefully pressed it together but should I trust this? I can’t see how I can just rely on the friction fit to keep it together.

Should I center punch the ends to flare them out? Or a cold chisel?
