I've accepted a rising junior student from a local “art school” –that would be a high school student to shadow me this week at the hospital as a medical photographer/graphic designer. There were no guidelines in the instructions. I have no kids so no clue as to where a girl’s head is these days. I hope she can take what I dish out in the way of on the job teaching. I want to make an impression but not scare her away. Any tips?

Don't expect her to know everything at first. You want to challenge her in a way that doesn't make her feel like a complete idiot.

Hit on her and get pics for us at ferrarichat..j/k :D or am I?

My girlfriend is an intern for a few weeks. Her issue with where she works is that they think she can't handle the job, thusly they give her lesser things to do. Just show her what to do and see if she can handle it. Just show her the basics and don't try and over power her. If she can handle everything then just guide her and help her grow.
Most of all have fun, make the environment inviting and interesting.

Tell her "I'm not going to 'talk down' to you, as that is disrespectful."

Then, let her know "you have to treat me and the environment you're in with respect, as this is serious business."

Just try to make it friendly and professional. You want to get to know her, make her feel comfortable but at the same time let her know that the internship is serious business. If you make her feel comfortable, she will feel less offended if you would ever have to criticize her work but also if you got to know her you could slip in the criticizism in a friendlier manner without being viewed as a jerk. You will be in the position to teach her everything about the profession and ulitmatley play a role with her sticking to it or leaving for something else.

    Good luck.

Ok, I took a shot of her in my studio to use as a fun pic to demonstrate a little about photo editing a portrait w/ Photoshop. Tomorrow….
