    "This year Intersport Racing received the honor for its association with team driver Liz Halliday, who is currently tied for first with teammate Clint Field in the LMP2 driver championship standings. The honor was announced at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Plaza Village Pavilion during the Fourth Annual Women in the Winner's Circle luncheon."

    Good stuff! Now with Danica nailing down a $7M/year (for three years with AGR) sponsorship with Motorola and Sarah Fisher back with D&R this weekend, women are getting more and better shots at doing well.

    American Le Mans Series team Intersport Racing was recognised Thursday by the Lyn St. James Foundation as being "a driving force for opportunity" within the auto racing industry.

    Founded in 1993, the Lyn St. James Foundation is a non-profit educational organisation dedicated to creating increased opportunities for women in motorsports. Last year the organisation created the Opportunity Award as a means of acknowledging those who have provided an opportunity for women in racing.

    This year Intersport Racing received the honor for its association with team driver Liz Halliday, who is currently tied for first with teammate Clint Field in the LMP2 driver championship standings. The honor was announced at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Plaza Village Pavilion during the Fourth Annual Women in the Winner's Circle luncheon. On hand for the announcement were Series President & CEO Scott Atherton and Series COO Tim Mayer.

    "It's a very just award, and I think Intersport is deserving of the recognition," said Halliday. "We've worked real hard all year, and I feel lucky to have the opportunity. Here I am with a number of wins and podiums, and I owe a lot to the team because they have played such a big role in my success this year."

    In addition to being the winningest female driver in Series history, Halliday has won more major circuit races (six) than any other female driver over the last year. Thus far in 2006, Halliday has triumphed at Sebring, Houston and Portland as she helped lead Intersport Racing to upset wins in the LMP2 class field over Penske Racing's heavily-favored Porsche RS Spyder. Furthermore, her second-place overall finish at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring was the highest finish ever by a female in the 54-year history of the prestigious race.

    "I think Liz has proven herself, so I don't think it's anything special that we've done," Field said. "She's just like any other driver, but if we can open up the door for others by giving her an opportunity, then that's great."

    "Without the opportunity, you can't show your skill," added St. James. "That's why I'm trying to highlight that, and obviously Liz has done an extremely good job with the opportunity."
