Hello again, looking for advice on interstate car purchases within Australia. Specifically doing the final transaction remotely. Assuming I’ve found a car I’m happy with & am going to have it transported, any suggestions on how to give buyer & seller confidence all has gone well, and getting it on the truck. Am trying to avoid an interstate trip to swap a bank cheque for rego papers. Shouldn’t be tricky, seller seems good guy, but one hears horror stories...
You know what? I bought and paid for a 328GTB from the UK sight unseen a number of years ago. A month later, while I was on an unplanned and unrelated trip there, I picked it up. I was relieved to see it and the owner, I have to say. Maybe try and find someone in the ferrari club who knows the person and/or car....that could work out with a bit of luck.
If the car is from Qld there is an FCA member who owns a transport company who may be able to help. He has taken my 308 to Mel a couple of times; otherwise, Alan's (sp) is excellent.
You're buying a relatively expensive vehicle sight unseen just to save 1 day and a few hundreds of dollars in airfares???
I bought my 308 sight unseen 16.5 years ago - conditional upon returning it at my cost if certain criteria weren't met; was a cheaper option than the time and money to get myself and my mechanic to where the car was. No regrets after all this time! Just my opinion, but PPIs from mechanics you don't have a longstanding relationship with are often worthless.
To clarify, I've flow in twice to see the car, and had a PPI by a local shop that was recommended. The car seems good, and the seller seems a good guy, my question is just regarding the handing over of money, keys, etc. Whether any point stuffing about with escrow or similar? PS: Have joined FCA and have been getting good advice there, as well as this forum.
I bought my car sight unseen as well, but it was in Scotland, not QLD. Even then, I'd still should've flown in and inspected it. Things you do when you're young and careless
I saw my car before I bought it I knew that the engine was not in the car but it will be soon Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I saw my car before I bought it, the engine was in a million pieces and the body was on a trolley at the paint shop
