Today I had reason to head to Wanaque Police to pick up an accident for a friend that had a problem on rt287.
    They turned me away.

I learned that local police DO NOT have jurisdiction on the interstates, but they will detain a motorist until a state trooper arrives.
I thought I'd pass that little tidbit along as I've seen quite a few locals on 287 in particular.

Be careful with that assumption, Clyde. They may not have jurisdiction for purposes of accident reporting, but I believe they do have jurisdiction for issuing traffic violations (i.e., speeding). And it is the local services that respond for fire/ambulance in the case of an accident, although the state police may be the ones who investigate and write the report.

So the police gave me a bum steer? How come I'm not surprised.
Thanks for setting the record straight.
