    After reading Astonishing and Uplifting WW2 Story and watching the linked video I found statement in comments about Saburo Sakai and how he did not to shoot down US DC-3 that was carrying women and children.

    This lead me to search about him and found this intresting interview that gives great view to he's thoughts, specially about germans and A-bomb.

    I read Saburo's and Martin Caiden's book SAMURI!: Saburo Sakai years ago (still available).

    He was a classic warrior... incredible fortitude; shot clear through the head, blind in one eye, paralyzed on one side, cockpit shattered, he flew 500 miles alone.

    After the war, he prayed daily for the Americans, Australians, etc. that he'd killed, as well as all the friends he lost.

    A hero for sure.
