Hi guys, I have to interview Julian Bond, Chairman of the NAACP, sometime this month. Right now I've got some questions about Affirmative Action and it's effects on society, but not much else. Anything you all want me to ask him? Jason-
Ask him why there isn't a white history month, and ask him if he thinks having black history month is one more way to segregate the nation.
You are obviously asking a loaded question with hopes of getting an answer so here you go: Check the other 11 months of the year and you got your white history. Have fun with that.
Actually, I prefer to call all 12 months out of the year 'American History'. If there is one month out of the year desginated Black history month, I feel it further enforces segregation and in fact does more harm then not.
Can you clarify what you're saying here? The way I read it, is that you're saying black history is supressed the other 11 months.
Ask him what the NAACP is doing to help the races work better together or is it their goal to keep things seperate.
Ask him if in his mind the Advancement of Colored People inherently means the suppresion from advancement for all non-colored People (this kind of ties in with Affirmative Action). Also, does the Association advace all colored people (i.e. dark skinned middle easterners) or just those of African descent? I would hope he sees the advancement as being more 'everybody gets ahead with more education' oriented rather than the 'No child left behind' mentality that we currently suffer from. BT
I'm not saying its intentional, but to some degree, yes. I'm not about to go on some tirade about unfairness and crap now. So can we just put a block on this road?
Ask him if I can be considered "African-American". As a white male born in South Africa, and now living a life as an American, am I a true African-American, or am I more African-American then the black African-American's out there. Any why arnt Mexicans in American called Mexican-Americans? Why do they get reffered to as Hispanics? Just all seems kinda dumb to me.
Ask him why he made such idiotic remarks about the current administration in his recent speech. What a fool.
I'm a man of colour. The yellow kind. Lets not get childish over this. NAACP did serve an important function once upon a time. Just as labour unions and the feminist movement served their purposes in a time of need. Great progress has been made since, and it seems the need for these organizations no longer are there. At least not as they were needed to fight oppression in the past. I think these organizations have outlived their original purpose and become dinosaurs. We all hear stories about these powerful organizations abusing their position and causing more harm than good nowadays. Labour unions strongarming companies into bankruptcy, feminists doing to men what men used to do to women and NAACP playing the racecard to further their causes. However the reason why these organizations still need to exist is to function as checks and balances so we dont revert. Throughout time, man has always forgotten its history and repeated its mistakes. This is why these organizations should continue on. To serve as a reminder and be called upon when needed. -Peter Ps I find it amusing when white people who in general are on top of the social and economic ladder make a stink about affirmative action, reverse racism and such. Moreover, I really fail to see why black history month takes anything away from white history. Storm in a teacup gentlemen. Pps Gl with the interview, should be interesting.
Ask him why if I were to start a television network called 'White Entertainment Television' I would be labeled a racist, yet the founders of BET aren't?
Ask him why it is perceived as insulting to be called colored. Then ask what the C in his organization stands for.
I think what you are smelling is alot of frustration. I think that most people really would like racism to go away, but those who claim to be the brunt of most racism seem to be the most racist of all. It seems that the white man is always the enemy, no matter what. Personally, I think Bill Cosby and Margan Freeman are right.
OH yea, as well as "Negro" and "Afro-", but only if you are not black. If you are black, you can be as insulting and as denagrating to your own race as you want.
Wow you're really up on your pc'ness. Are you really that passionate about it? Lemme explain it to you like this: Sometimes I act like a dumbass and I regognize it, but I just dont like anyone else calling me a dumbass. I dont believe a brother using the n-word is meant to denIgrate himself. Its just a tasteless linguistic phenomenon thats grown out of proportion. -Peter
