Ok fellow Fchatters, i need a good suggestion on a nice small intimate restaurant to take my wife this weekend. I'm looking for suggestions! we do not want to go to anything like Cafe Annie or Vic and Anthonys. even Americas is out. we are looking for something kinda small, maybe candlelight, and of course good food and a nice wine list. Im drawing blanks here.. help out!
Tell us what side of town you want and how much you're willing to spend ($50, $100, $150, $200) and we'll come up with a few for you.
I would like to keep it under $200. and we are up here on 59N/BW8. But we are going to be down by the Galleria and Midtown later that night. so location really isnt a big deal... scratch that... no place further west or southwest of the Galleria. has anyone heard any good things about Chez Nous up in Humble of all places?
The one time I've been out "fine dining" in Houston was at a place called Shade in the Heights. Good wine list, and excellent food. I am looking forward to going there again now that I'll be in Houston a lot more frequently.
Good restaurants in Houston: Mockingbird (pretty close to Midtown) Shade (Heights) Glass Wall (Heights) Mark's (Lower Westheimer) Hugo's (Lower Westheimer) Gravitas (Midtown/Montrose) Tony's (Greenway Plaza) DaMarco (Lower Westheimer) Michaelangelo's (Lower Westheimer) Bank (Downtown) Fleming's (Upper Kirby)
you want intimate? try the colombe d'or.....its the best for that....dim lights usually not too crowded 5 star place, then get one of their rooms at the hotel i think they have 7 or 8 rooms. Its in montrose its great. ive used it many times as my "im sorry" place, not that your in that situation just saying it usually is a good place to make a women happy again. im sure they have a website
Chez Nous actually has a pretty good rep. My old next door neighbor who was a chef got his start there.
Just went to Arturo's a few weekends ago. It is fine Italian, and reasonable. Very nice atmosphere. I valeted my Ferrari, but parked it myself, because of the young kid that was the attendant. Also, try La Grillia on West Gray, or Capitol Grill near the Galleria.
love all the feedback... colombe d'or... i actually have heard of that, totally forgot about that place so many choices..... its amazing how many nice restaurants houston has. its GOT to be one of the best city's for restaurants
Interesting - somehow I never thought of it that way...here in Dallas - BTW Does the Petroleum Club still exist?
Intimate and dining don't sound good together. My great aunt gave herself an intima something like 3 times a day AFTER each meal and I have no idea why, but she did it for decades.
I went to Mark's for my anniversary and my wife and I really enjoyed it. You could probably make a special request for a secluded area upstairs. Rick
Jason, Try Thai Bistro (across from Greenway plaza on the south feeder road between weslayan and buffalo speedway), Bistro Calais (French Cuisine 2811 Bammel Lane, South of River Oaks), and Mark's is always a favorite (higher price than the last two). Enjoy!
Im going to have to try Marks.. if not this week, then another time... lots of responses on that place.. and ive never been. thanks for everyone's input!!!
Sorry to chime in late but is Ruggles on Westheimer still around. I think it used to meet your criteria.
Mark's is decent but the food is a bit of a production. I generally don't like to eat at places where that have entres called "a study of____" Try DaMarco, you will not be disappointed. It's a very elegant/casual atmosphere, and the food is outstanding. Also, good Ferrari parking.
