    Hi everyone...

Just want to introduce myself and say hi. You guys have great cars and great forum btw.

I'm from Thailand and want to ship my baby back to Asia (i'm in NY now). Has anyone done it? I would love to hear any experiences, trials/tribulations, etc.

I know there is a huge chunk on import tax and the obvious fact that the wheel is on the other side, but I've put a lot of time into my car and can't bare to let it go! I'm sure you guys/gals know how close you can get to your car :) I have a 996 c2 btw (I know this is f-chat, but I've always been a long time ferrari fan)

Any help would be appreciated... nice to meet everyone

    take care

Jon (here's a pic of my car)

There's a bunch of active Thais here on this forum and they might be able to help you out on the trials and tribulations! of importing your car back from the States..
If I can recall, my country and Thailand almost have the same setup as to the import duties etc...which is unforgiving! unless you have 'connections' in the right places.

    Good luck!

This may not help you Im not sure they do international, but do not use Dependable Auto Shippers or also called DAS. I paid for enclosed and top shipping on my 62 Alfa Romeo and they did neither, the car arrived with oil dripped all over it on a non enclosed truck. It also had about 2800.oo worth of damage they refused to cover.

nopeee - thanks for the recommedation... I tried registering and couldn't get on. kept showing an error page after completed registration. I guess ill try again later. cheers

tonyyoshi - yeah you can... one of my friends did it. but not the legal way if you know what i mean

Ken275 - thanks for the heads up! I got price quotes from DAS awhile ago when I was looking into shipping my car out to london for Gumball. sorry to hear it went bad... ill spread the word to the p-car owners :)

I can understand why you want to import the car back to Thailand. Your car is one mean machine!

However, I think it will not be worth all the trouble you have to go through. Even if you get connection, it might not be that worthwhile since when, and if, you ever want to sell it later on, you won't get as good a deal for lhd car in Thailand.

Sell it, come back with the cash, and get another one here will probably save you a lot of headache, not necessary any money though.

    Totally agree with pwongd,
Do you have Student visa for the exemption for importing the car to Thailand? Because you need that first to import it to Thailand. However, with all the hassle and price you need to pay, you better off sell the car there and keep you add-on and buy it here... There are many of those around in Bangkok.
However,...If you want to bring back anything, bring back something that will freak everybody here, like (for the same price as your Porsche) Porsche 356 convertible, The Ford GT40 (rep), AC Cobra, Ferrari 512BB, Dino, Lamborghini Countach... You will be an instant hero with any those.

P'Patpong is right...sell the car, keep all the add-ons to bring back and install in the 996 here. There are bunch of them around. I know it's not "your car", but I don't know if all the paper work and headache will be worth it.

And yes, if you want to bring back something, it might as well be the car that has big shock factor. 996 is not that rare (for an exotica here), and if you plan to sell it in the future, left hand drive 996 will mean lower price krub. But if this is truely "THE CAR" for you, then you gotta have what you gatta have....:)

But If I were you...I will come back and look for a nice GT3 krub.

Interesting...it confirms my suspicion that Malaysia and Thailand have the same 'red-tapes/bureaucracies' when it comes to importing cars on your personal AP. Wholly agree with the above posts, i.e bring in a car that you can't/don't get in Thailand, being left hookers only models and such. Otherwise the resale values will plummet and not worth the trouble in the first place. Also to ensure the cars are tropicalized ( larger radiators etc..) if you insist in doing so. In KL we are allowed to drive left-hookers with the proviso that you have a regulated size sticker/plate proclaiming the car's a lefty( read ugly!!!)

    IMO I'd bring only an F40/F50/288GTO/CGT/959....Lancia Integrale/E30 M3..
All are available only in LHD.

thanks for all your replies. I really appreciate it. I think I'm leaning towards buying it when I get there -- Everyone I've asked so far has basically said the same thing "its not worth hassle" :( I have to agree and I guess I will bite the bullet and buy in bangkok. Does anyone know how much a used 996 would go for (not a fan of the new 997s)?

p'patpong - thanks for your advice! I can get a student visa (i think), i graduated university last may. and i agree, getting those cars you listed would definitely stand out, just can't seem to give up my 996, i love it... :) but i guess its about time... by any chance, are you associated with hisoparty?

p'pwongde - thank you! yes, i think I am going to go that route. And you're right, it will save me a headache for sure!

p'Mon - Thanks. It may not be worth it after all. love your 360 btw. beautiful.

p'pong - thanks for your help.. :) yes, the gt3 would be nice, love that car.. I've always been into modifying and I think a c2 would do just fine. Put that baby on a diet, strip it and then supercharge it... mmm

tifiosi - those are spectacular cars (f40/f50/cgt,etc), unfortunately they are out of my league. i'm 23 so my budget is not near as big as everyone here. :) thanks anyways though. cheers

    Hi Evo 333,
I would love to be in your position, being able to bring back any cars of my own choice. I would bring back the Lamborghini Countach any time. That Lambo will be priceless here. At the moment, I have to say there is a mist about five of the countach existed in Thailand. I have only seen one in a mechanic shop, never on the street rolling. I don't know how freak I would be if I see one driving in the flash on the street of Bangkok.

For whatever your choice, I am sure you will enjoy it. And when you get back, come join our fun activities in our clubs... http://www.ferrariclubthailand.com http://www.porsche.co.th/porsche/english/pap/clubs/thai/default.htm

Yes, I found hisoparty.com two years ago. We have regular unique visitors from the US about 4,000 a day, about 1,000 a day from the UK and Australia, 1,000 to 2,000 a day from Japan and Hong Kong. We have been very delight indeed...

K.EVO....I don't know if you have tried the 997 yet. I must say the drive is very different kurb. 997 has a vast improvment in term of suspension and handling. The power band is quite wider also. All in all, you can go faster easier in the 997. I tried it in Bira curcuit and on the road to Rayong during the Porsche World Roadshow here....very impressive car krub.

p'patpong - thanks for all your advice. I really appreciate it. I will for sure be signing up for the clubs when I get back. It will be nice to meet other enthusiasts in Bangkok. Hopefully ill be in a 996 :) oh, good luck with hiso! I've always heard good things about your site.. cheers

p'pong - I have yet to drive a 997, but I've heard they are amazing. Plus, the upgraded interior is definitely a nice thing. However, I do like the "look" of the 996 better (I know alot of people don't). And maybe I might be able to get a used c4s for the price of a new 997... maybe :)

I would think used C4S is cheaper than the new 997. If I remember it right, the 997 will cost around 14 million baht krub.

In KL the price for a 997 is RM750k and the S model stands in at RM820k. I've always thought the KL/BKK car prices are about the same with only marginal differences, taking into account the currency conversion. At RM1.4Mio you can get a 996 Turbo S.

Our working partner in China, who is a Thai drives the new 5 series in BKK and the price he paid is about the same as Malaysian locally assembled 525i.

Differences in import duties for imported 'non-business-conductibility-more for fun' cars? Some countries have that..

Wow, I wished there was this much advice for me when I tried to import a car to the Big Mango many years ago..........

Good luck to you Mr. EVO 333 and hope that you make the best decision, that's to get one over here.

Worse case you could always buy my 928.

p'patpong - That's great to see so many people visiting outside of thailand. I was just wondering about hiso because my friend always speaks very highly of you and your site. And when I saw your name in ferrarichat from thailand, I had to see if this was the famous 'patpong' I always hear about :) cheers

Thank you for the kind words,
Most of the people outside of Thailand that visit HiSoParty.com are Thai. I never want to put my web on any serch engines. We only want to serve the Thai's. And we have emails from Thai people everywhere around the world saying nice things that we keep them closer to home. They can see the activities just as fast as we can here in Bangkok. We are happy to do our parts.
I think my sister, P' Ann, Intira Thanavisuth, is the famous one. She has been in the Thai higher social activities for many years since she was thirteen years old. And she has been in countless of Thai magazines including some other Asian magazines. It's only these past few years that I fully particitating with the social group of Thai's because of HiSoParty.com. But yes, it's me. Beside all the fame and work I do, I am also a Ferrari nut. I love cars, mostly classic cars.
I work on computer many hours a day and FerrariChat.com and ferrariclubthailand.com really relax me.
Hope to see you when you get back....
