Hello, all. Just wanted to introduce myself. Like many people on this board, Ive always dreamed of owning a Ferrari, and finally its time. Ive just started looking for a 348. I dont really have any strong feelings one way or the other for TB vs TS vs Spyder I just want to find a good car. If Im lucky, Ill find one in my preferred color of yellow I had the day off today, so I figured a good place to start would be to visit my local Ferrari independent technicians, Competizione & Sports Cars. Its a new shop, but the two owners, Richard and Fernando, have a lot of experience from Ferrari of Washington, and they are highly regarded. I spent about an hour there today. They showed me around the shop, and answered my questions. They had a lot of great cars in the shop you can see some recent pictures in this thread: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=156323 They also sell cars on consignment, so I was able to test drive a 94 348 Spyder. This was my first time driving a Ferrari unbelievable experience. This particular car was very clean and tight, and it is advertised as having a recent major service (9 months ago). But it also has low compression in cylinder #4, so it needs more work. Ive learned a lot just by lurking on this board and searching the old messages. Its really a great resource. I plan to keep posting as my search continues - Eric Image Unavailable, Please Login
Welcome! Hope you will find your car soon and get some good driving time in before the onset of winter.
Eric, welcome from another Eric! I also have a 348 and work in baltimore, live in dc. Hope to see you around. Competizione rocks, I agree.
Thanks, all for the warm welcome. I'm going to call the owner of that '94 Spyder today -- see if I can get more info and see if he's willing to negotiate... I'm also going to PM Dr.G about his '91 348 TS. - Eric
Welcome to FChat! On behalf of the 328 Syndicate, I'd suggest pouring a glass of something and exploring all of the different model-specific discussions here.
+1 - manual top is perfectly fine in such a small car, and the Spiders look half-a-notch nicer than the coupes, IMHO.
Once you drive a few 348's hop into a Serie Speciale and you will not go back! Or a Challenge car if you find one not too abused. Welcome and good hunting. Feel free to contact the Brotherhood about cars you see. Vince SS 078/100
+1 spiders do have better lines . I always bought coupes in my pcars....but the 355 spider is a notch above aesthically over the hard tops !!!
You guys are whacked! A Spider looks like they lopped off the top and didn't even bother to accurately reflect the "C" pillar sails, one of the best design features of the 348/355. Plus you get the extra cooling vents behind the rear windows that the Spiders do away with.
The spiders rear window looks alot better than the coupes 70s looking wrap around AMC 'pacer' rear window !!
You know, at Competizione they also have a 348 Challenge on consignment. I believe it was a '94 (I think they all were '94s, weren't they?), and it's in full race trim, including seats, harnesses, roll cage, and racing graphics. The story was that it was raced twice, and then the owner got nervous and quit. I had kind of ruled out that car, but now maybe you've got me thinking... I was told the car is street legal (and it did have current tags). I wish I had taken a picture of it -- guess I'll have to go back. And while I'm there, I may as well test drive it... Do the Challenge cars command a price premium? - Eric
LOL. Richard at Competizione also suggested I look at 328's. He said he'd find me a nice one to try. I'll let you know. - Eric
