    My take:

Nice product, if you don't have one. I'd wait for a black one though. I can see the white one getting dirty very quickly.

Unless you are into making primitive music and videos, and 0.2 pounds in weight savings really means a lot to you, no need to upgrade from version 1.

The facetime only works over wifi. If you are in wifi area, you could use a laptop just as well. If it works over 3g or 4g at some point, an iphone is far more convenient for facetime conversations.

I don't believe the personal hotspot can be shared with an ipad, but not really sure. Can you confirm one way or the other?

I also think it has some sort of accelerometer that allows it to be pressure sensitive, so a harder poke on a drum makes it louder. Don't think ipad 1 is capable of that, but again not really sure.

I wish they would make the macbook air with a touch sensitive screen and allow the screen to rotate up like it does, but then also allowe it to slide forward and fold back over the keyboard. That way you could use it as a laptop or a slate, and it has all the expansion capability via usb and sd slot and a far bigger hard drive, etc. Plus true multitasking.

    Wouldn't that be nice?

The color of the screen, black or white, is painted on the back side of the glass, so you are never touching the painted surfaces, only the the glass.

I will wait until the 3rd gen before updating my gen 1 iPad. If you don't have one and want one get the 2nd gen. Beautiful device.

This is one bad assed bit of machinery for $500.

The Android stuff is either too expensive and full of warts or too cheap and full of warts. I think this is the first Apple device that's under priced for what you get by about $200.

PC geeks, I'm slipping away here. Throw me a command line or something....I fear only Lenovo can save me now.

You should be able to use your hot spot its it broadcast a signal just like a mifi or a wireless router does.

I doubt the original ipad is not capable of running the new apps, so that shouldn't be a factor.

The original ipad one does not have a gyroscope or an accelerometer, apps that need these tools will not run properly

3.5 hrs in the iLine paid off. Ran into old friends and caught up, not exactly a waste of time. Cool device.

I got denied the first day - everywhere I looked it was the white one only - no black ones were even stocked.

I ordered mine from Apple today - 64GB Verizon (black). My 3 year old now has my original 64 GB AT&T iPad. The biggest reason I got another one is he takes mine every night and I can never use it.

The guy at the store said 3-4 weeks but since I ordered it through the business department they will let me know if one arrives before and I can just come in and get it.

Impressed by the size/weight - much more portable.

Have you used the TwC app yet? Any feedback?

I got an email from TwC about it this morning -- and honestly, it has just about pushed me over the edge to getting an iPad.

Not yet. Only read the three reviews, which were not enlightening. I hope to use it at the gf's place with my account... crossing fingers. I'll test it out this evening when I'm on wifi. At work, nothing is wireless and everyone in the area has locked down accesspoints.

Here's my pasted review from another thread:

I bought the iPad 2 on Friday after standing in the iLine for 3.5 hours.

Arriving at 3pm, it was a nice and sunny day. No worries there. The line was long and I had time that afternoon. The apple store employee girls went around with a cart, gave out gatorade and bottled water, along with big umbrellas for shade. This gave me time to catch up on reading a book, and also catching up with an old friend who was a few spots behind me in line. All the 3G models were depleted pretty darned quickly. The only one that was available by the time I got up there was the 64GB AT&T in white.

I exited with a wifi 32gb in black with a green cover. Now that I've had it a few days, here are my impressions. But I really should ask my gf to write up her impressions since she's used it quite a bit more and really enjoys it.

    - It's great for web browsing.
    - It's not so great for typing long messages. Usually, painful to do so.
    - Great for reading up on the news, looking at books (technical, not pleasure reading yet, would prefer a kindle for an ebook reader, but I still like paper books). I've only copied a handful over through iTunes into books (pdfs). And that is strange, once I sync them up, the iPad must be on wifi before it registers them in the Book Reader or even Stanza app.
    - Sad to not see any sites that don't have flash alternatives, especially video.
    - It's very light, and very thin. And that worries me, esp since I'll be traveling with it starting this Saturday. It will be transported in the back of my camera bag, so any extra support and buffer would help. I feel like it will be fragile and even though I got the smart case, which is cool, that only protects the screen. I'll probably be making a book case this evening, something like this: http://www.carrypad.com/2010/04/15/h...booksafe-case/ After finding a cheap 1 dollar book at Half Price that would need to be sacrificed.
    - I only have an iPhone 3GS, and the iPhone 4's battery meter is just like the iPad's - which is by %. That is a good thing but also an OCD thing where I constantly look up at it. I wish it were just a bar until it was depleted to 30%.
    - Video - Facetime, no friends that use it... yet. Will try and simulate something soon. Need to test with the ClearSea Mirial app and a few other H.323/SIP application, afterall, I'm in the VC business. Camera quality is sub-par, but it isn't for taking pictures even though you have photobooth on the iPad just like you do on any shipped mac out there. Don't get this for the camera, it is just OK.
    - Overall, very nice and snappy between applications and the few games I've acquired. Like it for ease of opening.

For those who own iPads: in day to day web browsing how annoying do you find the lack of Flash? I'm worried because I browse a lot of sites that have Flash based slide shows. Thanks!

It depends on the kind of surfing you do. When the original ipad came out, they did a survey of the top 100,000 sites and found that 33% were using flash. In your case, it would be VERY annoying, as your own sites have flash and I assume you would be wanting to check those out.

    Get a macbook air instead.

Tried it last night. Goes through a web setup of an account, account number, etc. Launched, couldn't get it working. Didn't work until this morning around 8AM. had about 12 channels to choose from. Not many. Food Network, Discovery, a few news stations. Came in pretty clear. Simple interface and all. Nothing high def. I am sure this will be updated soon and often to accommodate more channels and settings. I just hope the service was down last night and it wasn't just a flood of new people trying to hit the service... which is probably the case.

More on the Time Warner Cable app - used it for a while last night. Chronicles of Riddick was on AMC. Seemed to work well. There were only a few times when it buffered, and that lasted no more than 4-5 seconds. Happened once this morning while watching the Daily Show. Overall... very slick what they've done so far.
