Looking at the two, the 3GS seems better, but is it worth the extra $100?

    Thanks,

Very much so, much faster, more features, plus its 2x the size, 8GB vs 16GB.

it's better, maybe not if you're tight on cash, but there is nothing about it that's not better or equal.

From my perspective as a current 3G owner, it isn't worth the upgrade to the 3GS, just not enough of a change and I'll wait until the next model is released. However, if you don't currently own an iPhone, I would definitely recommend going right to the 3GS.

With a minimum monthly bill approaching $100 and a contract length of two years, you'd be pretty foolish to get the 3g to save a hundred bucks, I think.

And yes, it's a huge improvement, mostly speed-wise. I have a 3GS and have used the 3G plenty of times and it's a much better experience on the 3GS.

Here's a link for side by side comparison:

    http://www.apple.com/iphone/compare-iphones/

I've really increased the battery life on my 3G with the Morphie Juice Pak (available from apple.com - http://store.apple.com/us/product/TU337VC/A?fnode=MTY1NDA0MQ&mco=NzA4NjY1Mg ), lasted the entire weekend at LeMans, without it, I would would have lost live timing, etc. in about 5 or so hours. When you get down to 10% battery life (message appears on screen) the internet becomes quite slow at that point. I wish they'd lower the cost for global internet a bit - $59.95 per month right now for 50 mb in additional to all the other charges.

    Hey Carol,

Did you see the "Insane cell bill" thread in silver? - http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=248759

Multi-thousand $ bills! Your $59.95 "global internet" solves this problem? You can use it up to 50MB in Europe (and elsewhere?) for that price? What happens if you go over 50MB?

I agree, it's a bit steep but at least you're somewhat protected! [Incidentally, while I know you're over there all the time, can this $59.95 charge be applied on a month by month basis? Or does it need a "long term" commitment?]

    TIA, cheers,
    Ian

You can add/delete the service on a per-month basis.

    See http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/international/roaming/iphone-travel-tips.jsp

$59.99 per month - 50 MB Data Global Plan (50 MB of usage in over 90 countries*. Overage is $0.005/KB)

Beware pull apps and things that autoupdate!

    hey Ian . . .

I just went to that thread - OMG, thankfully the AT&T bill here isn't that much! What happens if you go over 50 MB - about a $240 additional amount added to one bill!

Also turn off data roaming on both iPhones. For the international stuff it's the AT&T World Traveler @ 5.99/mo; 50 MB data @59.99/mo; then to that's it data plan iPhone @30.00/mo; iPhone text messages @5.00/mo - second iPhone with similar costs and heaven forbid when you go over the 50 MB (which I have done). Then there's the other cell phone system we have to have to maintain cell coverage where we live. Two tin cans tied together with a string is a good idea sometimes!

    Got a 3GS yesterday.

I'm really happy with it. It definitely feels faster than the 3G.
