Is there any way you can buy a 3gs unlocked? Apple nor ATT will give me the phone at upgrade price so I have to pay full, and since I am going to do that, not sure if there was an unlocked version? Thanks

You can easily unlock the iphone yourself. Or look on craigslist for an unlocked one.

    *it does void your warranty*

Since you want an unlocked phone and not necessary factory unlocked 3GS. The cheapest way i can think of is to ask a friend to create a new contract with AT&T and buy it for $300 (in the case of a 32GB 3GS) and then cancel the contract. It will look something like this: $300 (iPhone)+$36 (Activation Fee)+ $80 (First Month/cheapest plan) +$170 (ETF - Early Termination Fee) = $586 without TAX.

Once you have the phone, you should be able to jailbreak and unlock your 3GS without problems by some simple instructions on the web. I recommend you to visit hackint0sh.org forums for any questions or help. Just be careful to look at the right iPhone production week to determine if it is unlockable or not. 4th and 5th digits at the back of the box should be less than week 36.
