I had a 2008 MacBook. My MacBook was synced to my iPhone 4 and everything was great. After some time, the MacBook's OS became unsupported by Apple and could not run the latest iTunes.

A few months ago I bought an iPhone 5. My iPhone could not sync with my MacBook because it was too out of date to run the proper iTunes. So I used my HP laptop that would run the newest iTunes. I was able to get my data from iPhone 4 into HP and then into my iPhone via the HP. However, I was never able to get any songs into the iPhone 5.

I just bought a brand new MacBook Pro. I took a bunch of my CD's (I'm a kid of the 90's so I have tons of original cd's I've amassed over the years). However, when I try to sync my music it says:

"The iPhone “Matt's iPhone” is synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library?

An iPhone can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iPhone with the contents of this iTunes library."

If I click ok, will I really erase my iPhone 5 or just the music on it (I have zero (0) songs on it so I have nothing to lose. I don't want to lose all my work email set up, apps and settings. Please advise on any thoughts. I went to Apple store and they said to bring it in as they were not sure until they played with it.

Matt, I hope your problem has been fixed by now.

But if OTOH you still have questions about iTunes or your iPhone, I find some of the best answers come from online forums, magazine articles and people's blogs. Apple has been moving away from direct support (after your 90 days' phone support expires) to either having you post your questions on forums or pay for tech support.

After having sampled the various sources of technical advice, I have to say I prefer the candid altruistic advice from fellow users. There are simply some things that first-line Apple tech support personnel either don't know or don't want to discuss.

For your particular questions, I find that just typing "how to transfer windows itunes library to mac" into a Google search will bring up useful suggestions. Good luck!

    1. You open iTunes on your laptop and click on your iPhone's name on the left hand side. After the page opens on the top you will see "Summary", "Info", "Apps", "Tones", "Music", "Movies" ... etc.
    2. Click on "Music". Put a check mark in the field "SYNC MUSIC" and choose "Entire Music Library" on the drop down menu below.
    3. Click on "SYNC" on the bottom right of the screen
Wait until it has finished syncing and you're all set.

Thanks all. Since I had no songs at all in the phone I lost nothing. The local Apple Store told me that always comes up and I could bring it in for them to help if I was afraid to do on own. A lot if worry over nothing. However it took 2 different stores and 5 employees before I got to a guy who knew nothing would happen as he had same issue himself and did it because he had no songs to lose.
