I don't know much about the Iphone, but I'm trying to think of something to get my boyfriend for Xmas who doesn't really need anything. He has an Iphone and I knew someone who had one with this cool thing that could help you pick out restaurants and stuff and I know there are tons of other apps people have. So are there apps for the Iphone I could buy him as a gift, like get them from the apple store or whatever? I have no clue how this stuff works. I also know some people have to jailbreak their phone to put things on there, but no clue about that either. He doesn't have much on his phone other than what it came with, no music or anything.

You can buy him an iTunes gift card, but that's about the only way you can buy him apps. You can't 'gift' him an app as far as I know.

Ah, I guess he'd have to download them to the phone himself so it's not something that you just buy and install like computer software.

 Oh, he does, you just haven't found it yet ;)

Congrats on your thinking though! - Very cool!

Jimpo's "kinda" correct..... You can "gift" him not just a (potentially virtual) "giftcard", but can specify songs/albums/playlists/ & videos - Much "nicer" than just an $xx gift card! - Very cool. But, for reasons unknown, it seems that you can't "gift" an application! :-(

[I'm guessing the geeks that designed the store were guys, and never figured anyone would want to buy an "app" as a gift.....:) ]

Bad idea these days IMHO - Early on, yes, but with a few exceptions, no longer. [IMHO]

Does he use an iPod? Is portable music important to him?
Does he have a navigation system in everything he drives? Hikes? Bikes?
Does he drive on the track? - How about a data acquisition system?

What's "his thing" is I guess the question?...... We'll figure out how to make it a "gift" later......

BTW, the "restaurant locater" you saw was probably a (free) app called "Aroundme" - How to add it as gift remains a problem though......

    Cheers,
    Ian

Yes, he has an ipod. Yes, he has navigation in his car. Nope, doesn't drive on a track. And a gift card is out since I wouldn't want him to know what I spent.
