The iPod legacy adapter is pretty useless (2014 458), Apple switched the connectors, and then discontinued the iPod itself.

Are there any options available to convert the connector to something that's more useful --- like accepting a usb drive with mp3 files?

I've been using CDs with mp3 files, and it's ok --- but hope there is a better option.

I chatted with the folks at Crutchfield, they couldn't provide a solution.

There is the Bovee bluetooth device or Apple actually makes a 30 pin to lightening adapter. I have used both on my 2012 458 and they both work well.

What TXG23 said. I’ve used both and they both work. One note: I found that the Apple 30 pin to lightening adapter was orientation specific. In other words, when I plugged it in it wouldn’t work but if I faced the plug the opposite way it worked. So I put a little mark on the lightening plug to know which way was up. Just an FYI if you co that route.

Wireless streaming from your iphone via Bovee 1000 plugged into the 30-pin worked in my 2014 Maser GT (of course you need the cable that has aux and USB on one end and 30-pin on the other). I presume Ferrari had the same set-up back then?

Depends on the model number of your factory radio, but this company makes various adapter kits so you can run an iPhone, Android phone or Bluetooth.
https://www.discountcarstereo.com/ You can search by the model number of your radio, or simply call or email them. I was able to purchase an iPhone lightning cable adapter to replace the 30 pin Ipod cable that was originally connected to my Becker Cascade 6112 in my 430 Scuderia. They also offered an USB cable adapter for mine as well.
