My eldest wants some sort of iPod for her birthday. She wants something small (not a regular iPod) and likes her mom's mini. But now the new nano is out. Any thoughts, pros or cons on the Nano compared to the mini?
Obviously, size is supposed to be the big "pro" of the nano - smaller, and much lighter. As far as I know, the Nano has a color screen and will display the album art for the song you're listening to if you so desire. IIRC, the prices for the Nano and the Mini are comparable - $249 for 4GB - about 1000 songs. I have a mini that my wife got me last Christmas, and I use it all the time.
Nano has flash memory and mini has a little hard drive (correct?); seems the flash would be less likely to break??
three words. Dell Pocket DJ. It doesnt have the slidy wheel thing, but sometimes you can get a smoking deal on a dell pocket dj. Plus, its the size of a regular ipod for a better price. I have a dell pocket dj, the sound is good. Ive dropped it three or four times and the unit still works. but the only thing is that you have to buy one of those docking stations to load songs or charge you unit. Same with ipod though.
If you don't want a regular sized iPod, Apple made your decision for you. The Mini has been cancelled since the release of the Nano.
The iPod doesn't need a docking station, just the supplied USB cable. And, as a tribute to the apparently bullet proof iPod Nano, check out the Ars Technica review. Good stuff is on page 3. http://arstechnica.com/reviews/hardware/nano.ars
I tried to open that page but my computer blocked the spyware and the page wouldn't load up with out the spyware. What was the result. was the Nano sturdy or crap?
They drove over it with their car. LCD screen broke, but the band played on. The had to throw it 40' in the air and let it hit the concrete before it stopped playing music. And it surprises me that Ars has spyware. Hmm. Another joy of using a Mac.
She'll be pleased with a nano. I want one myself I was checking them out at the local store the other day... no money though
Get the Nano hands down (as apple does not sell the mini anymore.) Don't even think about an mp3 player that's not an ipod, they are all crap.
We have had two minis and love them, we use them on the boat, in the car, great little invention, I want a Rocker, which is a phone/ipod combo.
I highly rec. the Nano This yr alone I've bought an Iriver H300, Iriver H10, Dell DJ, Ipod nano out of all of these, I have to say the Nano has the most wow factor. The sound quality is excellent and the user interface is just as great... I mostly use my MP3 player for excercise, so the fact that its so portable makes it even more delightful... Nano I say
I have 2 ipod 60gig, 1 mini and 1 nano. The Nano has the x factor. I'm getting one for my 8yr old son's birthday next month.
I want a normal one, just because it's 20Gig (minimum!) and I'll fit a lifetime worth of music on it! lol
Go with the nano, I have a mini and its great but the nano is better. Color screen, smaller and it has the all important wow factor (especially for teenagers). The only downside is that for 4gb its $249 vs $199 for the mini but if the mini has really been cancled as others are saying its not an issue at all I guess.
I have Nano, and really like it. I skipped Mini, as I have iPod 20GB & Shuffle. Just for listening music, Shuffle is more suited for me, but Nano has more function. I took Nano last weekend to Vegas, and used it as data storage for the laptop. Too bad, I can't see well for pics they show on the screen for songs. I was wondering what they were. (now I know, after reading previous posts here!) Nono's battery was drained after about 5 hours of continuous use. I think I didn't turn it off correctly or didn't charge fully. Nano can't be used for a voice recorder yet, so that's one con for me. All in all, IMO if you are into gadgets like me, you can buy Nano, but wait little while to see what other accessories will be out & possible problems are identified.
One of my friends picked up a black Nano last night, i was looking at it and it seems way cool, since it jsut came out I think nano is probably what you wanna get.
If i were to get a Ipod it think the nano would be great. the flash memory will help keep the bat life longer then the small HD of the mini. I say the nano is the way to go for small mp3 players.... As for my mp3 player i went of the beaten track and got an Iaudio X5L. its as big as the normal Ipod but it has a 35 hour bat life vs. the 14 of the normal ipod.
I saved a few hundred bucks and went for the iMagine(tm). It's pretty cool and totally wireless. Sometimes the timing is off and the lyrics to new and some old songs are muffled. There's a lot of memory, but I've found with age, there is some memory degredation. How much? I'm not sure so I cannot calculate. Overall, I'm quite pleased.
