wow. that takes some balls to do, but I'm sure it was necessary.

Could he actually cease to support the Iraqi police without getting court-martialed or something?

I don't think he can make that tirade on camera without getting an ear full from his superiors let alone pull troops out.

I'm guessing that if he's standing there dressing these men down, he's got a little rank under his belt. And his orders are probably to get these guys in line--I'm sure his frustration runs all the way to the top.

I dunno, even though that sounded all cool and John Wayne-ish, I would imagine that dude was just wasting his breath on them.

Can I get a ruling on this , Doc?

Frustration, yes I would imagine so but to do it on camera was idiotic. So many people are against this war now and there are so many videos like this and worse all over the net that is makes their job harder.

I don't know that his speech was so uncalled-for. A lot of people wish they could tell these guys to get their **** together.

    Thats pretty much true.

    Quick story:

Early in the war we were training the Iraqi Police (IP) just as you saw there. USMC was in charge of the endeavor and after we were ordered to provide them with rifles we ordered 500 ak47s from, yes, Russia. They came in and were beautiful!!! Right from the factory new with that nice "new gun" smell.

So we handed them out and started training. Now then, Iraq has no banking system and never really did, so you have to give the guys weekends off and also other days off to take their pay to their families. So we sent them home on Friday and they all came back on Monday.

Walking around it became clear very quickly that they almost to a man all had trashed their rifles. A closer look showed they did not trash them, they all had different rifles!! (WTF?) They had taken there brand spanking new stuff and sold it for gods damn old crap and pocketed the difference. To make matters worse, less then two days later we got calls that some of our weapons had been captured in a raid.

I love it, now when do we start lining Americans up and telling them the same thing, especially those who are young able bodied and on public assistance.

I didn't say the speech shouldn't have happened I said it shouldn't have been on camera. Also define "a lot" More people in the US don't want this war continuing at all based on the public opinion of the US people which is based heavily in the war and since it was an American soldier, most of the flack will come from the US.

I guess you weren't reading my post huh? I said it shouldn't have been recorded and since so few people were being dressed down I doubt his threat of pulling out had much weight.

I think the US soldier's sentiments accurately reflect the on-the-ground truth of the situation in Iraq, and I highly doubt this rises to the level of Marines throwing 'live' puppies off a cliff. Anyone who has seen Full Metal Jacket understands exactly what they're hearing in this clip. However, 'Big DoD' has worked very hard to cultivate an image of politically-correct professionalism within the Armed Services that this video defeats, and that isn't going to make everyone in the Pentagon very happy.

The way I feel, anti-war sentiment is consistent with frustration towards the lack of responsibility within the Iraqi PD/Security detail. Sure, many in the public want out. But they know that a big reason we're mired over there is because of the reasons cited by the US Soldier. I highly doubt Americans would view this and see it as the American military bullying the Iraqis or abusing their power--this isn't one of those videos of soldiers grenading house pets.
