Who's going?
If I can get the generator working (carb gunk problem) for air conditioning, I will be bringing out the "Mother ship" for fun, drinks and barbecue around 4pm. Anyone is welcome to come hang out in the lap of late 80's luxury until the race starts. Or come park at my house and drive out with us.. I live 15 min from TMS You cant miss it, large vehicle with Ferrari flag atop a 10 foot pole! Yeah I know,,, kind of nascar-ish... PS. let me know if you know a good mobile mechanic. I have fiddled with it probably making it worse.. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'll be heading out there as my friend is spotting for one of the race car drivers. I'll be rolling out in either a measily 01 540i Sport or an 01 M5. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Was there for part of practice today, will be out for the race on Saturday. Was lucky enough to get a couple of Pit/Infield passes from Andretti Green Racing through work.
Well, I cant get the generator working and after being out at the track all day yesterday even though it was nice weather it was still pretty hot in the sun. So we move to plan 2.. If you want to, anyone is welcome at my house before the race, say 4pm. I will grill up some burgers and we can caravan, or carpool to the track around 7pm or earlier depending on traffic. I live on eagle mountain lake and we can take back roads to the track. Email me for my address and headcount before 2 or so so I can get enough hoosh. [email protected] Jason
Forgot, if you have a pit pass, this year they are requiring you to wear pants and no open toed shoes. Yesterday I showed up in my business attire (shorts and birks) and they wouldn't let me in :-( Also here are a few pics from yesterday.. we were in my business partners condo. Fun watching Indy tryouts, then the nas-trucks came out... lots of wrecks! I have one PSL parking pass and 4 tickets with 4 pit passes that I received from Scott Murray as the result of a Gilda's House donation. I understand that my young children are not allowed in the pits as they under 18. Would any Ferrari Chat subscribed members like to go to the race? If so, please give me a call. Mark 214 914 4700
We just got some free tickets to see Chicago this afternoon, so I dont think I can make it to your house. Too tight on the timing.
My wife and I are taking my 4 year old son, if you want you are welcome to leave your little ones with us and run to the pits for a while.. We will be sitting in the bleachers.. Also remember to wear long pants and shoes or they wont let you in the pits.. And man its HOT!
Just got back from a brief run to TMS to pick up my tickets and pit passes.. Damn it's hot.. Honestly say it's the hottest of all the trips to TMS I've ever had. Glad it's a night race. I'm going to pass on the invite Jason, thanks anyway. I need to cool off a bit before I leave the house for the track later tonight. Interesting to see they are enforcing the clothing guidelines this year. First time I've ever been that they are doing that (6 years+). Before it was only a hot pits situation that they did that. Wife, Em and Aidyn are going to a wedding this afternoon (I'm exercising a free pass) so I'll head out, get my pit walk on, and then Em will join me for the race.. The new enforcement will reduce the amount of yahoos on the pit side.. that's a good thing. We're sitting in PSL 133, row 26 or so. T
The only thing I'm fearing is the heat, I rode my road bike yesterday for 20 miles & I'm still burned & worn out from yesterday. That heat took a lot out of me.
We got out there about 4:30 and walked pit area....heat was terrible for about 2 hrs until sun started going down. Up in stands for the hour preceding race and during race it was pleasant with a nice strong breeze. Left with about 75 laps to go...who won?
Sam Hornish. Had a great evening once it cooled off and Em got there. She got to meet a lot of drivers, including her hero Danicle Weldon. Dario Franchitti was extremely nice, took time out to talk to Emily about the race. Weldon as well. With the Danica/Milka mania, it allowed us to talk to some of the other drivers without a crush of people.. She didn't see Danica, and that didn't break her dad's heart one bit. Em had been to 5 previous IRL events at TMS and she said this one was the best one yet. For the daughter-dad experience, I'd have to agree. Todd...nice pics, thanks for update. Danica was definetely the media star; when we were in the pit area around 7 there were crowds around both her trailer and car. It was a fun time.
When the drivers walk down the stairs to start the race, they throw out hats to the croud. It was my gf's cousin's birthday, and he caught an autographed hat from Sam Hornish, Jr., who ended up winning the race. Cool birthday present.
