Tony Kanaan calls it an experiment, but obviously it's one that is going well, after topping IndyCar Series testing at Sebring.

Kanaan, testing what he called 'big, big' changes on his No. 11 Andretti Green Racing Honda/Dallara, led the field during testing Monday at Sebring International Raceway.

His fastest lap of 53.5174 seconds (112.337 mph) on a 1.7-mile, 11-turn portion of the famous road course was better than the other eight drivers in the shortened field.

"We're testing a lot of things," Kanaan said. "We're trying big, big things that we did some simulation over the winter and thought were better. Changing big things in the car takes an hour, sometimes two hours. This is the time to do it, because we won't have time when we get to St. Pete.

"It's the last two days, now it's down to one day before the season starts and before we go to St. Pete. I would say it's going well."

Nine drivers from Andretti Green Racing, Rahal Letterman Racing, Vision Racing and Roth Racing totaled 554 laps. Testing will continue Tuesday, with the other half of the IndyCar field scheduled to test at Sebring on Wednesday and Thursday.

Following Kanaan on the time sheet was teammate Marco Andretti at 53.8378 seconds, AGR rookie Hideki Mutoh at 53.8716, and Rahal Letterman's Ryan Hunter-Reay at 54.1880. Danica Patrick, who was fastest last week in the second night of a two-night test on the Homestead oval, was fifth-fastest Monday at Sebring.

The IndyCar season opens March 29 at Homestead.

    Let me get this straight...

AGR had 4 drivers at the test, including a complete rookie.

Of those 4, Danica finished...last?!? Behind a complete IRL novice?!?

    Sounds right to me...

Why are they using the short course? Maybe the long course will turn their cars in to 1 million pieces.

Just saw that Al Unser Jr. is going to be a driver development coach! What's he going to coach on, picking up prostitutes, beating them up and leaving them on the side of the road? Drunk driving?

    Hearing problems??

Last today of four AGR cars, first the other day on high speed oval where she womped the other AGR cars, AND 5th OVERALL yesterday at Sebring, once again beating MOST of the men. Teddy, you have to stop leaving out all the facts to make a point. You are beginning to sound like one of GWBush's spin doctors, and like them, after a while, only 32% of the public is gonna buy the BS.

Wow...she whupped Vision Racing and Roth Racing...the giants of the IRL

I'll bet their budget for the IRL season is less than my budget for a season of PCA club racing.

As for doing well in testing on ovals, I wonder how much the fact that she weighs half what the others do plays into that? As has been discussed here numerous times, testing performance on ovals depends to a much higher extent on car set-up than driver input whereas on a road course the reverse is true. It is easier to hide driver deficiencies on an oval than a road course, especially when your driver weighs 100 lbs dripping wet.

The bottom line is that AGR has a complete novice in the team now and even he is faster than Danica...

She is the Anna Kournikova of racing and her continued presence is an insult to more deserving female drivers like Sarah Fisher.
