    Danica Patrick (Danica who Ted?) shrugged off an illness that has kept her from two days of media appearances and one day of testing to set the best lap of the day during Thursday's IRL IndyCar Series test at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

    The Andretti-Green Racing driver was clocked at 25.0772 seconds (213.182mph) as she topped the five-hour night session.

    The lap, recorded about a quarter of the way through Patrick's 186-lap run, held up against the efforts of Ryan Briscoe (Penske), Dan Wheldon (Ganassi) and A.J. Foyt IV (Vision).

    Briscoe lapped in 25.0920 seconds, while Wheldon, who had the fastest lap on Wednesday night and won the Homestead race last year, set a 25.0619 second time.

    Patrick overcame flu-like symptoms, including dizziness and fever, to secure P1 among the 18-car field.

    "It's kind of nuts to skip a day and then go out there and be quickest, but we were struggling with the race car," Patrick said. "Until the very end of the day, we were really pushing to figure it out. We definitely didn't have it down. At the end of the day, we're all walking away pretty happy.?

    Others who were satisfied with their efforts included Briscoe, who completed his first open test as Sam Hornish Jr's replacement in the Penske No.6, and Wheldon, whose lap from the previous night stood as the fastest of the two-day test.

    Hideki Mutoh, Dario Franchitti's replacement in the No.27 AGR Dallara-Honda, was sixth-fastest on Thursday, while championship favourites Tony Kanaan and Scott Dixon were among the top eight on the chart.

    "Dixon was fast," said Patrick, who dueled with the Ganassi driver late in the session. "He definitely had enough speed to pull up beside me. I backed off so I could get behind him for a while, even though he was a little bit faster at the time. I ran behind him for a long time and managed to get a couple of runs on him, but it wasn't enough."

    The IndyCar Series will resume its spring training on Monday with the start of a four-day test at Sebring International Raceway. The season-opener is set for March 29 at Homestead.

    I can show you testing results from the F1 pre-season with the STR at the top of the timing sheets. You think they are going to win a GP this year?

    I don't think Ron was implying anything other than "here's the results from practice".

    Also a question, did IRL adopt weighing the cars with the driver for this year? I read it awhile back but not sure what happened.

    Now that the "merged" talent pool is deeper, look for Danica to place lower than last year, on average.

    That said, none of the other drivers will be appearing in the SI swimsuit issue. Thank goodness.

    To get where she's gotten, she has had to to talk smack for a LONG time. From racing in the UK to Atlantics, there are egos WAY bigger than hers...

    No worse than the hundreds of Porsche weenies down here at Sebring this weekend :), at least she can back it up.

    Tell me again how this "merged talent pool" is going to force her down when she's kicking a two-time Indy 500 winner that drives for Penske (as is Briscoe, a Toyota protege who's been cast off), among others.

    Dude, Champ Car drivers and teams are no threat to IRL anymore, all the top ones (CGR, Penske) left a long time ago. I'm no IRL lover, AAMOF, I blame TG for the systemic plundering of American open wheel racing at the highest level! I pray Graham gets a good ride overseas...

    Seriously,I know her father, she looks good in person. Most women are hair and makeup. Throw them in the shower and they look like, well, crap with wet hair and no makeup. If they have that natural look, like I just got out of my driving suit after going 220 MPH and still look OK with no makeup, then they are keepers. This kid is that. But if you are into the slut look, I guess that theory does not work.

    That probably explains Ted's problem. ;}

    That just eliminated 99% of all women.

    Including your wife. ;}

    Danica's problem isn't her speed. It running in traffic. She's gotten better over the years, but when pushed she can't handle the pressure. If you look back to when Rahal put her in the ProDrive 550 (ALMS), she was pretty quick by herself, but during the race she didn't do so well.
    AS far as looks, I think shes a looker. Needs about 400cc of silicone on each side though. I have met her several times professionally, and think shes a royal B..... I know the Prodrive team didn't care for her much either.

    Overall I think she's done good for open wheel racing but is getting a bit long in the tooth. Ironically though I think shes better off NOT winning a race. Right now she's an underdog that people love rooting for. Once she wins (I know she will eventually), if she can't repeat it often, I think the loyal following she does have will begin to wane quickly. Then she'll just be a one hit wonder. (that looks good in a bikini!)
