...or BE aN Einstein after you're done. ;-) Afterall, this is a thread about grammar. Live by the sword, die by the sword. John
"Irregardless is a word that many mistakenly believe to be correct usage in formal style, when in fact it is used chiefly in nonstandard speech or casual writing. Coined in the United States in the early 20th century, it has met with a blizzard of condemnation for being an improper yoking of irrespective and regardless and for the logical absurdity of combining the negative ir– prefix and –less suffix in a single term. Although one might reasonably argue that it is no different from words with redundant affixes like debone and unravel, it has been considered a blunder for decades and will probably continue to be so." Then again, what do I know about English... I am a Chinese from Singapore
Irregardless is actually in the dictionary... But i know what you're saying... i'm glad someone else started this thread... There's so much incorrect English, spelling and grammar on this board, it's mind-numbing...
LMAO...!!! i've been seeing this a lot lately and it freaks me out...! Contractions are dumbing down America...!
Although this was inspired by another, I knew you (being the wordsmith that you are) would weigh in at some point! I have always been impressed with your command of the written language. ...I still re-read your 550 article from time to time. >>"Suddenly everything in front of me was everything behind me..."<<
i enjoyed writing that article almost as much as i enjoyed driving your car... The article allowed me to relive the experience... We had a great time that night... The bread at that place we had dinner was awesome...
'Intensive purposes' and 'I could care less' are the two that drive me absolutely insane. My Harvard tie! Like, oh sure, HE went to Harvard...
Professor and the Madman was a great read! I definitely recommend it as well. Another that I noticed becoming more common (particularly in eBay car descriptions) is emmaculant/imaculent/immaculent etc...ugh
How about we create our own version of Buzzword bingo using all these violations of the English language? For instructions, see the link below. http://www.bullsh*tbingo.net/ Erich okay, thanks to the prude filter on this site, the link will not work directly. You must type the URL in manually. I think you can figure it out yourself.
To quote that dude from the best website ever, "...if these words were people, i would embrace their genocide..."
How about if we start our own Ferrari / other exotic 'Sniglets'? I'll start! 'Dustarossa': The urge to wipe down your car before every drive.
