How about a flat tax? No more of this crapola to worry about! Pay your fair share, no shenanagans (sp?). Would CNN really be feel bad for IRS agents getting the pink slip?
This will never, ever, ever happen in the USA - unless it is taken over in a military coup. It's really a non-issue.
What would you do with all of the highly paid professionals that count on the tax code to make a living? A flat tax would eliminate 500,000 high paying jobs within a few years, you would create a depression as these people stopped spending and they glutted the real estate markets with their homes. Bankers, insurance companies and financial advisors are all all big donators, do not expect any politicians to alienate them. Flat tax is a good sound clip, what you always get is an alteration to the current tax code.
H.R. 25 and S. 25 are bills in the House and the Senate that call for a dissolution of the IRS and all other taxes. Replacing it with a single National Retail Sales Tax, the "Fair Tax" would be a ~23% sales tax on all new goods and services at the retail level. Embedded taxes on goods and services are already at 22%, so the removal of these taxes would create an unsteady market and force the producers to lower prices thereby saving you money. Also, so that this tax is not overly regressive a government prebate would be paid to each head of household each month to reimburse the household for the tax on basic necessities. All 60,000+ pages of tax codes replaced by one.
