I was there actually. It was great to see the demonstrations of 5 ferrari f1 cars on this Dutch circuit. Really nice weekend!
Probably the only picture I ever saw Eddie with the #1 on the car. <sigh> Thanks Anthony for sharing.
nice! That must have been a lot of fun. What track was this on, was that a rev restricted engine or did they let you go free? .... and yeah the helmet looks great
Apologies for the shameless plug. AGS test track in Le Luc, France (Provence). Their factory is on the track. Engine was not restricted, but somewhat downgraded in hp for longevity. We were allowed to go flat out, but one spin and you go home. However first we did about 20 laps in F3. One of these days I have to do it again: Now they're offering paddle shift ex Arrows cars. One painted as "Mc Laren", one as "Ferrari": http://www.formel-1-fahren.de/
http://www.f1racing.net/en/news.php?newsID=89479 Here is the rest of the interview with Eddie: I enjoyed his assessment of DC! The last question made me feel sad all over again. So near, yet so far. I remember watching a documentary about Eddie and the 1999 season. There was one part where Eddie was lying on his hotel bed the morning after the Japanese GP. He had lost the world championship the day before. He said, "I know I will win it. I would hate to have to go through the rest of my life knowing I hadn't won it."
I do not understand what all the fuss was about! Ferrari won the contructors world championship! That is what mattered! I was celebrating.
Jean Todt did nothing wrong. He was asked to bring the Constructor's World Championship back to Ferrari. At the end of 1999 Ferrari were Constructor's Champions.
1. Luca would disagree with that, especially after Nuerburgring. 2. If it were only about the Constructor's title, then why can't Rubens race as he wants to?
Luca got what he wanted in the end. 6 straight World Championships gives him nothing to complain about. F1 is a team sport. Rubens is always aloowed to race as he wants to, but intelligently. That implies that he cannot slam into he team mate and take him out on turn 1 like Montoya. He has to finish the race and get the most points possible. Everyone within the team has a role to play. The role of Rubens is different to that of Michael. Irvine had a role to play too. He was a great driver and his sevices to Scuderia will probably never be forgotten. Irvine was part of the championship winning team. He is a champion too. To look at it any other way is to undermine the teams hard work in 1999.
True. But if he hadn't asked Irvine to move over for Michael at the French GP he would also have brought home the Drivers Championship. It is ludicrous to suggest that Ferrari are only interested in the Constructors Championship. If that were the case they would never have asked Rubens to give way to Michael.
we need irvine back in F1. not just for his racing, but also for his lifestyle. at least F1 was still glamourous with him around. who else would leave his yacht in monaco the morning of the race, accompanied by 2 beautifull and barely dressed ladies....?
F1 is a team sport. Ferrari are the best team ever. One celebration at a time: 1) 1999: celebrate the contructor's title coming back after so long. 2) 2000: celebrate the best racer in world winning the driver's championship for the best team in the world.
Have you seen the documentary series about Irvine a few years ago? I had allready read his book Green Races Red and the strange thing is that in the book he seems ok, but in the documentary he looked annoying. I nevertheless bought his book Life In The Fast Lane and that was fun to read too. I couldn't attend the event at Zandvoort but a good friend of mine had my book signed by Irvine, which is nice. My friend told me he didn't like Irvine much. He seemed a bit bored. Arnoux and Ickx on the other hand were very pleasant according to him.
I agree....great looking helmet! I need to get the branding on mine like Andreas though p.s.-That's PeterS leading and GTO84 (kris) trailing. Me Passing Image Unavailable, Please Login
I was lucky, I bought my helmets (I actually have two E.I. helmets) when tobacco advertisements were still ok. Talk to Michael Charness (FChat moderator). He did the Marlboro insignia for my M.S. helmet. He is brilliant at painting helmets.
