Somebody asked me about my 94 spider. He asked is this a super car. I really don't know, as a kid the countach on my wall or the testarossa also on the wall, we called them super cars. So is a 348 a super car?

It's probably an opinion type answer since I don't think there's an official definition, but I'd say no. I've always thought of the "supercar" label being applied only to top-of-the-line exotics. I'd include Countach, BB512, Testarossa, Diablo, Murcialago, Veyron, F40, F50, Enzo, Ford GT, Vector, Carrera GT and maybe even the old 959. Many more would qualify, but I think you'd get the idea from that list.

Exotic sports car, but not a supercar.

Exactly. The list of true supercars is quite short. The 348 is an exotic, but not a supercar.

Never saw the 348 referred to as a supercar - the testarossa's yes, but 348 no. But funny enough, Journalists used the term supercar when referring to the F355. It was faster than a TR. The word "Supercar" made it onto plenty of the titles inside the magazine when describing the 355. I have also read the term Jr-supercar when referring to all of the V8's...

But, I would probably agree to reserve the title for the halo cars as said above as f40, f50, enzo, etc.

Is the 911 a super car? probably not. Is the 430 a supercar? probably not. Is the CS or scud or 458 speciale a supercar? Also probably not - even though they are special also.

The 458 IMO is a SuperCar. However, the LaFerrari is a HyperCar. The 348 would have been the equivalent of what the 458 is today. Maybe in it's era it was a SuperCar?

Saying something is an exotic car, super car, hyper car, etc. is all silly and childish in my mind. As if these are actual scientific classifications. What are their definitions? What is an exotic? Something made somewhere else? So does that mean owning a Ferrari in Maranello, Italy is not an exotic but owning one in North America is? Does having a low production number make it exotic? They only made 500 Mustang 350R's. Does that mean it's an exotic? What is a super car? Something with super performance? Does that mean someone who owns a modified Honda Civic that runs 11's in the 1/4 mile owns a super car? And hyper car? What is that? A car that has to be expensive? So when people were paying over $1,000,000 for muscle cars they were actually buying a "hyper car"? And most importantly, why the hell would anyone care if someone didn't think the 348 was a "super car"? Is it somehow less of a driving experience if not branded a "super car"? Or this is all just for showing off the next time you have a long cock competition with your neighbors? "Ohhh.....there goes Pedro in his super car.....ooohhhhh....."

Super cars are cars like the F40, F50, Enzo, FX, McLaren, Carrera GT, Veron, Pagani ect.....Those are what the "super car" title sticks to or is designated for. All the rest are "exotic".

This, exactly. Production cars aren't super cars, at least according to the common use of the phrase ever since it was coined.

I had a pre L '71 Pantera back in the 70's and never considered it a supercar ... or even an exotic.
I just thought it was a neat car to drive back then. ;)

When my neighbour saw my 348 he said: aaaaa, Testarossa. I paused for a second and replied: yeeees. Good idea, I thought, and immediately bought a Testarossa badge.

Super are the top performer for their time i.e Diablo F40 , Saleen

458 isn't a super car, it's the entry level Ferrari. By today's standards super car has been redefined. Only the top dogs are super like F12 . 458 performs no better than the heavier GtR. If 458 is super then new z06 is hyper

    Now there's new category " hyper " car like 918 or P1

Normally I think of only the top dog cars as super not a production model with thousands of examples made.
