I understand . And i agree with that on the windows. It seems to me that the 456 was pushed to production by Luca when a few things like the windows just were not fully developed.
For the other things, time has its impact on cars, and the more modern the more profound so it seems. Age and moisture affects hoses, radiators, hydraulic cylinders, rubber parts. Most of the wear accelerates from non-use, esp. thermostats and radiators. The same applies to the fuel rubbers.
In years of owning and intensively using multiple cars >25years old, I found that wear found on these cars is not that different from other classic cars, apart from the fuel tank and the poorly made windows. It's just that if you need to hire someone to do all that at shop rates, it will cost you yes.

To be an "investment" a car must be collectible or about to become collectible. I'd argue that given current prices and recent price action the 456 isn't currently considered a collectible car

Now the question you ask. Is it about to become collectible and "dramatically rise in value". That's a function of what the market believes. Are collectors about to say. "I must have a 456 in my collection as it represents a certain point in history or a turning point for the brand" etc etc. I'm guessing not.

I owned one for four years (456M GT, at the time of sale 20k km, one of the last produced (06/2003), in the classic 456 colors and in excellent conditions). In this period the price has risen by 20%. I drove this car, finally with the sale proceeds I was not able to cover the running costs.

The 456M GT is one of the most beautiful (perhaps the most beautiful) 2+2 Ferrari. IMO it is also better to drive than its too heavy successor. There exist no more elegant Ferrari from the modern era. The weak points are well-known and one can fix them well. I think basically this car has a collector potential on a modest level. Time will tell.

Much smaller buyer pool for any 2+2 Ferrari. The 456 is not a "gotta have it" car. I do like the Daytona-esque hood scoops - but those are on the Early cars...

I would buy what you can enjoy and put your effort into your day job and not become a "day trader" of F-cars.
