Hey, IIRC, I signed up ages back in order to rant at somebody.... (!) It also appeared to be something of a shouting match [I remember thinking, "and I worry about Fchat!" ] Anyway, they *claim* Hobbs et al are there on occasion - I *really* want to know the story on the radio broadcasts, but reckon the Q would be better coming from an oldie..... Anyone? Cheers, Ian
I'm like you Ian. I registered a few years ago after seeing that some knob was spouting something stupid, but haven't gone back. I made the same comment re. FChat, too I wouldn't be surprised to find out Hobbs checks in here, even without registering. It seems they like to keep their fingers on the pulse of fans. Maybe start a thread calling out to him, sort of like summoning the spirits!
+1 On some of the occasions they've referenced "forum posts" in their broadcasts, I've often thought "they're reading our BS!"....... Then I figured maybe the Speedtv forums are as "active" as here, and STFU. If the spirits are here, "let them talk" [albeit anonymously ] Cheers, Ian
I've never registered for their forums, but their web site is a nightmare in my opinion, as is Auto(semi)week's. Who's their web designer, some intern?
I can send Bob Varsha a note. We exchanged notes this week regarding Speed cutting away at the end of the broadcast. He said they were more disappointed than anyone that they had to cut away.... Kevin
They definitely pay attention to the forums. When the whole McLaren Spygate scandal was going down and Hobbs and Matchett retreated into a sort of patriotic defense of McLaren, despite all the facts, the forums roasted them for it and they backed off next broadcast. Same happened when they were in Lewis can do no wrong mode that year. People complained, they backed off.
I refuse to watch the programming they aim at their audience. I can only imagine the audience that loves that channel, on their web forum, with usernames like "RobinzRacin", "DebrisCaution", "Three4ever", "Boogity³" and "KhaneMeKasey"... debating the best beer under $10/case while screaming "CUZZZZZZIN CARL!!!!' and "JOOOOONYER!!!!" at each other. God, I can hardly stop from puking at the thought of the Pinks forum section...
Really wouldn't surprise me a bit. Forums are usually where the fans analyze what is presented by the media and current environment of F1. I have seen some of the other forums and some of them are dominated by loud, beligerant individuals that don't have the most compelling arguments for their position FerrariChat has the most informative fans that I have experienced so far regarding F1. I believe a great deal of that is the quality composition of the FerrariChat community and a HUGE amount of it has to do the the moderating that takes place that keeps the board civil and extremely knowledgable. Several times in the broadcast, members of the broadcasting team are parroting the exact sames lines to be found in some of our threads! Many others on here will probably agree with me. Personally I consider it a compliment to the quality and caliber of our group and something we should be proud of... Frank
Easily. I think a large component happens to simply be from the fact that this forum base is extremely intelligent (usually takes a few brains to make exotic money).
Excellent point. The quality of the members of our group is perhaps the main strength of this board. Frank
I used to be on a forum where the same sort of people are. probably 98% where Brits...I remember posting something ''Congrats Kimi on your first WDC!'' back in 2007 (this was in the official F1 brazil thread). probably 95% of the people usually active in F1 threads where practically getting their torches ready and hunt me down. I literally wrote what I said above. Left pretty soon after that, pretty much anyone on there where biased ****s anyhow, the 'lewis can't do a thing wrong' crowd, you know? Left them to worry about spending their next income check on forum membership & new air filters and kissing the moderators ass with their political correctness (before anyone asks, it wasn't a ricer forum!). - I like it in the F1 section. There are a lot of knowledgeable people on here. As long as you keep by the most important rules (don't post results in thread titles) a lot goes here. It's less PC than most sections on the entire website...I think we have Andreas to thank for that!
I can't imagine Hobbs on the internet... And I can't imagine Varsha's big head not posting / pontifiacting under his own name... And Matchett,... wouldn't waste time on a site populated by speed TV fans!
Cool! I think..... Hopefully, you're on his address list, so it wont go straight to spam. My Q's: 1 - Who gets to hear the radio exchanges? We know the FIA hear all, but beyond that, who's online? Only the Bernie-vision director? The Speed director? The other teams? 2 - Are their routine exchanges encrypted? Who holds the keys? [Outside of the FIA of course.] Cheers, Ian
Everyone has their favourite driver. He raised a fair point the other day when people where arguing about the Schumacher penalty. ''Mclaren had been given the all clear by the stewards TWICE yet still received a penalty'' (about the 2008 Hamilton/Raikkonen spa overtaking). Say what you want, but he was right. His views can be a little extreme BUT so many others on here have extreme 'hatred' for other drivers (namely Schumacher, Hamilton, Massa and Raikkonen). Its the same thing. + this isn't a whole forum full of one sided bum lords. It may say Ferrarichat but there are many supporters of other drivers/teams on here...
I wasn't even talking about the Schumacher penalty debate nor do I care what he thinks about it. However, I'm far from surprised that he brought up an example pertaining to Hamilton when talking about something.
Here is Bobs response; "The FOM television people (Bernie) make all those decisions. We just take what they give us. We may replay interesting ones that happen to come during our commercial breaks. The radio transmissions are not allowed to be encrypted."
Only there is a tiny flaw in this... its bollocks. I suggest you change your name to : Wrongy McWrongerton.
Cool - He may not be the most liked guy on here, but at least he responds to his emails - Thanks for that! So, we know the transmissions are now "open" - This suggests that all the teams can monitor each other all the time. (?) It also appears that which to broadcast, and when, is a decision of the SpeedTV director - Did everyone NOT watching the broadcast on Speed hear the same exchange? [I can't remember exactly when it was broadcast, but can search it out I guess.] What's still not clear to me is his "we just take what they give us" comment - This *suggests* that they're not given everything - ie, there's some censorship being done by the the FOM (or French) TV folks..... Someone made a conscious decision (not Mclaren it seems) to pass that exchange to the broadcasters - Who and how decides what gets out? Cheers, Ian
There is so much radio conversation, it's up to the director to decide what's worth broadcasting.....they have to careful too with foul language, which dramatically cuts out how much can be used. Drivers swear alot!
+1 I guess I'm starting to sound like a broken record (!), but what's still not clear to me is who decides which of the transmissions reach the (different?) directors around the world - Is it the FOM guys who "censor" 'em before they reach, eg, Speeds director? Or, does he get to hear "everything", and then makes his own decision as to which are worth broadcasting? Did the guys listening to, eg, the BBC coverage hear LH' comments at the same time as us I wonder? - We know they have separate directors - Or, was the exchange part of the "world feed"?...... Sorry to keep banging on about this, but I want to know who decided to broadcast that exchange! [I bet whoever it was isn't on Lewis' xmas card list.....] Cheers, Ian Cheers, Ian
I would guess the radio broadcasts are sent out to everyone at the same time regardless of network. It would make since the guys are always cut off mid-sentence by broadcasts and don't seem to know they are coming. If the network director decided what to play it would be more structured like when Buxton cuts in to add something. Plus we would probably get to hear more transmissions on F1 Debrief than just what was already heard during the race. Also, if the teams aren't allowed to encrypt the transmissions, does that mean you could bring a scanner to the race and hear everything?
