I found this pic of them in the pits, and a brief story elsewhere where JV was saying the fins don't impede vision

Surely they're not going to use this in competition??

It is not going to matter much... they are meant to improve the air stream to the rear of the car and, thus increase downforce. But the BMW have a biggier issue of speed and tyre wear.

As long as they're angled correctly and thin enough, they won't block your visison. I hope they run it like this, I will laugh the entire race, lol!!! I guess this could be considered an upside down walrus tusk of the FW26. Or bunny ears.

If they are going to make fins like that they minus as well make them look good. Something along the lines of shark fins comes to mind.

I think they will get banned under the same rules that banned those fugly X wings they had a few years back. If they don't, they should.

They've gotten the ok from the FIA Technical Director (Charlie Whiting) after the other teams queried him at last week's test. They're going to run them. It does sort out the air over the engine cover and the rear wing.

You can be sure that every team is testing them in the wind tunnel as we speak. Prepare to see them on all the cars in short order.

    :shudder:

They won't block your vision? Not half...

It just show how stupid the rules are becoming in F1.
How can they get away with that?
Next thing some team will fit a sail.

I remember seeing that front spoiler at the '04 USGP. We were talking with all the people around us about how stupid it looked and how it wouldn't really help them in the long-run. I call it the platypus...

I think I read somewhere sometime ago that FIA wanted to ban all flaps, bargeboards, winglets etc. to return to a cleaner bodyshape. I suppose that's in the cards for 2008?

Considering how lousy the BMWs did in qualifying, I think they ought to take them off for the race.

And I think the FIA should ban, before the next race, all "extra" bodywork pieces anywhere above the main bodywork in front of the cockpit.
